According to the polls on Clutchfans, most here would LOVE to see McFail fired as soon as possible. Good guy or not, we don't like him as a coach. What many do like is Mike D'Antoni, with the exception that he is not known as a good defensive coach. Mike has stated that he would like to change that with his next coaching job with some sort of Defensive specialist, title yet undetermined. So how about : DUAL COACHES - A COACHING DYNAMIC DUO Before you say no, because it has never been done before, if egos are put aside and enough money is paid to the coaches, anything is possible. So who would be the best candidate? JEFF VAN GUNDY He loves the Rockets and the city still I think. While he was here, we never questioned his grind it ugly defense, but we knew that his offensive strategy sucked, kind of to the opposite degree of how D'Antoni's defensive strategy sucked. If Superstar players are expected to be able to put their ego's aside for the good of the team to get along together and build a winning atmosphere, why can't coaches be expected to do the same, recognize their weaknesses and accept a Co-Coach to help build the best team possible? I think a Mike D'Antoni/Jeff Van Gundy head coaching team would be the best in the league and build and EXCITING team for us to watch...win or lose. Sure they would have to learn how to get along together and make coaching decisions as a team, but that's what we expect players to do as well. And what do we really all want? An exciting young team that plays hard on every possession offensively and defensively. Sure we want to win the NBA Finals Championship, but we all know that we are not there yet. In the meantime as we continue to get better and grow, we want to see exciting hard played inspired basketball on both ends of the court These two coaches would bring that to our team better than anyone else out there. If you want to top that cake off with some nice icing, hire CALVIN MURPHY as a shooting and free throw coach, as well as a mentor to some of the young guys. Yes, egos will be involved, but as professionals with a goal in mind, they should all be able to ultimately get along as coaches. Les can suck up his ego enough to hire back Jeff and Calvin for the benefit of the team. What do you think?
He is one of the best defensive coaches out there. But since I see you are a very new member here, I don't know if you were around when he coached the Rockets or when he coached the Knicks in the NBA Finals against the Rockets. We hated his offense, but his defensive schemes made the games ugly by holding the other teams points down.
Abso-freakin-lutely!! JVG is the man! Also, i once heard him say that he wouldn't mind taking an assistant coaching gig. The only thing about it is, maybe Les doesn't like JVG. But a D'antoni and JVG would be excellent.
Wow, I never heard that part about him saying the he would take an assistant coaching position. So that attitude would be perfect for this scenario! Glad that someone else agrees about this possible solution. Hopefully Les could put away his dislike of Van Gundy for what's best for his team.
I would welcome back JVG all day/everyday as an assistant or head coach. There aren't many good/legitimate coaches available these days. However the guy has a great gig rite now. I'm always entertained with his input and opinions on the games he's commentating and his whole demeanor towards the game itself. But he's too talented to not coach again. Anyteam would be lucky to have him...(I've always had a lot of respect for him)
Jeff Van Gundy is known as a reliable defensive coach, one of the best. He was Tom Thibodeau before there was a Tom Thibodeau(coach of the Chicago Bulls known for his defensive minded coaching btw, regarded as one of the best young coaches of this league). He is by no means, a sack of **** like the other poster said. He is one of the most respected coaches in this league, and was a main part of the legendary run of the Knicks. He definitely knows what he's doing. His offense may be dry, but his defense would make up for it. It's better than what McHale is doing, completely stagnant offense and horrible defense(how many boards do we need to lose in crunchtime?).
IIRC and i could be wrong, i think he said that the rigors of head coaching were a little too much for him now and he would only consider an assistant coaching position. Like i said, i could be wrong.
So how do we get a petition to Morey and Les to let them know that most fans want McFail fired and that a D'Antoni/Jeff Van Gundy coaching duo would be what's best for this team? (As if they would really listen to us, because obviously they are not listening about the Comcast situation!) Also, what do you guys think about the Calvin shooting and free throw coaching possibility?

Excellent idea! Let's everyone tweet Les and Morey to fire McFail and go after hiring D'Antoni along with Jeff Van Gundy as our dynamic coaching due! GET'R DONE ROCKET FANS GET'R DONE MOREY
I think it's easier to have an alpha dog and get really smart people on the staff, i.e. Thibodeau was elite level staff that is now a great head coach. You have to have a clear leader sometimes, just like our guys actually on the court.
I sorry, but I can't stomach any guy with Van Gundy attached to it. These guy are clueless. Jeff has a reputation for overworking his players and then they get injured, but he has no real system, no strategy, he just tells his players to run laps around the court for 5 hours. As for D'Antoni, his record speaks for itself. He has led some stacked teams into the playoffs and gotten slaughtered every team, his teams lack toughness and mental fortitude. Guy is basically an absent minded professor. He has good ideas but no real way to incorporate them into the real world. Sort of like the guy who trie to reinvent the wheel or condom.
