Who you guys think should be the first pick for the Texans next year? I've been watching UCLA's last couple games and Deshaun Foster is really impressive. He's not putting up heisman type numbers, but he is big, fast, and agile.

edit: actually he is putting up hesiman type numbers, but isnt getting talked about in heisman conversations on tv.

Don't waste the first pick on a RB. By the time your team is ready to compete, he's broken down and ready to retire. Also, I haven't been impressed with the non-physical play from the Pac-10 I've seen this year. UCLA's big runs have all been when there have been big, open holes, from the little I've seen.

Though Julius Peppers has been up and down, I'd either take him, Chris Simms (based on physical tools alone), or if neither are in the draft, I'd trade down and try to take a couple of the tackles that are in the draft. Before the season, I thought a big CB would be nice, but from what I've seen of Quintin Jammer, he's way overrated, and I don't know of any other 'top pick' type corners around.

Okay people will think I'm crazy, but I would pick OT Bryant McKinnie of Miami. This guy is 6-9 and 336 pounds. He has never given up a sack since he started playing football. I know most people would want a QB or a RB, but you have to have a good OL to be good in the NFL. Just ask the Deadskins if that isn't true.

It won't be Foster. I think either Henderson, McKinnie or Peppers. If I were them, I would trade it for several picks. I don't know if that's possible though.

i bet when o.j. or earl campbell or bo jackson were drafted #1 their fans were enraged that they "wasted" the no.1 pick on a RB.

Nebraska QB's don't play QB in the pros.

Realistically, Henderson and McKinnie are probably the two best choices right now, but that is of course subject to change.

Bo Jackson played a grand total of 3 years in the NFL before he had to retire because of a hip injury. Earl Campbell had 3 amazing seasons, slowed down for 2 ok seasons, and was average at best for the final 2.

Whether the fans were happy or not is irrelivant. The goal is to win the Super Bowl. If you expect this team to be at that level in under 3 years, great. Otherwise you'll be wasting momentum by getting an important piece who you'll have to replace just as you're getting good.

Well those backs went to established franchises, maybe not good teams but none of them were entering their first NFL season.

Oh, and I am pretty sure that Tampa Bay fans were actualy pissed that they wasted the pick on him and he went to play baseball for the Kansas City Royals. On the other hand, Raiders fans probably didn't mind the fact that the team spent a 7th round pick on him and he only played 3 seasons.

I guess I kind of got the impression that he was in the Charles Woodson, Shawn Springs, Champ Bailey class. Guys who are above average corners skillwise, who are so freakishly athletic that they can overcome their mistakes and close incredible distances to recover when they get beat. He's not quite at the level that those 3 were when they graduated.

jammer will be a very productive nfl corner, he could play safety though due to his physical play and big hits(he just started at cornerback last yr)

I agree 100% with you Manny -- I think we should go after Bryant as well. He is truly an amazing talent, and guys like this don't come along.

First pick will probably be John Henderson of Tennessee. No way does Simms get picked first... Peppers is also intriguing.

Definitely do NOT waste a #1 pick on a QB that will get sacked about 30 times his first season, unless you plan on bringing him in slowly like McNair. Also, the overall defense for the Texans will probably be bad anyways, so a defensive stud won't make that much of a difference right away. A big cow on the O-Line is a good choice. Free agent QBs are very plentiful.

Hell, pick up Jeff George! That would be a nice way to make him suffer...make him play for a first year expansion team...

Nomar, the only person in the nfl who thinks running the option is a good idea is Jerry Jones.
