I am a new member but frequent visitor to this site and promise not to waste your valuable time unless completely necessary...with that... I was awaiting a flight out of Miami last night as Glen Rice and his lovely wife Christina approached the gate. I didn't want to appear too zealous so I brought to their attention an article that was in USA Today yesterday that referenced him. He had not seen it and graciously engaged me in conversation for the next hour as our plane was delayed. If first impressions count for anything he was the nicest athelete that I had ever met, Jr. High or otherwise. He spoke openly about his genuine excitement about his new team and city, but realized that there would be great challenges ahead. His foot is fine, as he walked to the ticket counter I monitored the walk and contemplated snatching his DVD player to peep the sprint, but with airport security and all, I let it go. He is anxious to dispel any rumor that he has seen his best days, and is adamant about being the force in the league that he once was. He and his wife just had a baby a few weeks ago and I saw pictures (told you he was cool). The wife, Christina, contrary to what NBC portrayed a few years back, is a super nice and supportive lady, ready to take on H-town and everything I assured them that we have to offer. I brought up the All-Star MVP and he said to his wife, "Baby we got to get a copy of that" I was aghast! Good character guy, gracious, humble and ready. I think as he does, it's gonna be a really fun season.
Welcome aboard! I think Glen Rice is going to have a big year myself. Between him and Cat and Francis, I think the Rockets are a .500 team, and throw in some production from the big men, rebounding wise and at least decent low post scoring, this team is a playoff team, capable of winning 50 games or more. Good to see Glen is ready to go!
Nearly every teammate over the years has gotten along w/ him well and he is known to have many close friends around the league - so he must be a really good guy. I hope he becomes the veteran leader in the lockerroom this year.
That's awesome!!! I wish you had done it and had been able to get a copy of the airport security video tape or something. I'd probably pay to see that.
Another Brother, Welcome to the board with a neat first post! I think Rice will be a great fit for the Rox and I don't think his foot will be a real problem. Dallas (Doc)Rocket
Awesome post Another Brother. Great to hear your story of Glen Rice. My friend met him here in LA too and he also chatted with Rice for 1/2 hr. Rice is really a nice guy and from what I know he doesn't mind talking to fans or anyone. He's one cool guy and one heck of a shooter too. Can't wait to see him play in a rocket uniform.
No waste of time at all. Good to hear from you. But your poll didn't have the one I wanted to vote for: "We'd have won Game 5 in San Antonio if Rice would just learn to shut the &*$# up!"
