Why not Ian Mahinmi?

This is a young center Morey could be going after. Here are his stats for the season on 18 minutes of play through 61 games

pts 5.8, rebs 4.7, blks 0.5

Asik on 14 minutes of play

pts 3.1, rebs 5.3, blks 1

Asik is better but not 8 million a year caliber center. Ian Mahinmi is 25 years old and UFA. He would make a good rotation player. Could start on our current roster but would probably wind up rolling with the second unit on a great team. He won't cost anywhere near 8 million and does not run out of gas like Asik.

Have you guys ever seen Asik play extended minutes...When I have seen him play extended minutes he seems gased and can't stand straight. IMHO Asik plays with a lot of energy but it's unsustainable for 30 minutes a game. If he plays 30 minutes consistently he won't be Asik. Basically my point is Mahinmi may wind up better value if you can pick him up for 20M on a four year deal. (5million a year).

Plus Mahinmi can catch the ball in the post especially if you have a good point guard he can give a double double on 30+ mins per game. He isn't the defensive beast Asik is but I dare say Asik isn't the defensive beast he is advertised to be on extended minutes.

Exactly my thoughts...Asik is better but will cost too much...People are going to sleep on Mahimi. Also I'm not as concerned about his ability to maintain his production with extended minutes..I'd be surprised if Asik can beast for more than 24 minutes

He'd be a nice pick up, he and robin lopez are my picks for the center spot if asik is matched. Only if they sign for reasonable contracts though, nothing over 5 mill a year.

I liked Ian MAhimi, and kind of ironic in an online NBA 2k12 draft I had to decide between him and Asik, and I chose Mahimi. More athletic and explosive and much cheaper.
