Quote:
PHOENIX (AP) -- The Phoenix Suns withdrew their qualifying offer to Aaron Brooks on Saturday, making the point guard an unrestricted free agent.

Brooks was acquired from the Houston Rockets at the 2011 trade deadline and appeared in 25 games with Phoenix, averaging 9.6 points, 4.2 assists and 18.9 minutes. He played in China last season.
Star point guard Steve Nash left Phoenix in a sign-and-trade deal with the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Suns also have a deal in place with free-agent point guard Goran Dragic.
Dragic went to the Rockets in the 2011 deal that sent Brooks to the Suns.

We can probably offer him 2-3 years at 3-4 million per year.

He sprained his ankle with us, and when he came back he didn't have the same quickness or explosiveness. Aaron without quickness and explosiveness isn't much if you think about it, and because he was doing bad im sure he lost confidence which leads to a worse jump shot too. So because of his ankle injury he lost quickness, explosiveness confidence and his shot was off, so he dropped like a stone. He can be the same player at nba level he was in 2010 with us if he can work to get his quickness and explosiveness back, the jump shot and confidence will naturally come back with those 2 things.

I think it was a combination of this and pouting about his contract.

No different than how bad lowry was after returning from his injury and having to backup dragic. except lowry was pouting about his minutes.

He would be a good choice on the cheap. If we don't sign him, I guess we're officially in rebuild mode.

Aaron Brooks is the poster child for why Morey has to treat his non-stars like assets. Imagine if Morey had gone the Dawson route and locked up Brooks to something like 5yr/$40mil extension after his big season.

This is the 2nd time Brooks has been dumped for Dragic. First by the Rockets, and now Phoenix. AB has gotta feel pretty worthless right about now.

In just under 20 min game he avg 9.6ppg and 4.2ast so basically right under 20pts and 8ast per 40 min...far from shabby..he also avg 22ppg overseas so I think that Brooks is back and would be a solid pickup for us...he is still young enough to give a few more solid seasons if givin the opportunity...I would like to see us pick him back up if the price is right (I don't feel he will ask too much)

I think he may have actually benefited and gained some confidence back from playing in the China league. Didn't he average like 28 points a game or something? I would take him, especially at his cheap price.

He can still be a top tier 6th man IMO but I imagine he will only be effective while he's young and still has his speed. So a shorter, cheaper contract sounds about right.

Yes, playing in China benefited. I also believe he has matured being over in China and IF the Rockets do pick him up he will prove all the nay sayers wrong.

He is not as good as Goran but every bit as good as Lowry in a different type of way. He would be a nice addition to the Rockets, but a step down from Dragic.

Thats what im thinkin... if knicks dont match lin... lin/ab isnt a bad combo... ab 6th man coming off bench.... combo for around 11-12M

(forgive if lin is already out of the equation - everything changes on a daily/hourly basis... lol)

I'll take Brooks all day as long as he isn't making more than 4 million per year
