That’s a lot of money for the young swingman and a gamble on Green’s game maturing. Green scored 15.1 points per game his last full season in in Oklahoma City but needed 13 shots to do it — he’s not very efficient. He’s a career 33.7 percent from three. He’s got all kinds of defensive potential but tends to not bring the effort on that end of the floor. He’s never had a PER above 14 (and the league average is 15). There are reasons the Thunder were willing to part with him. In his half a season with Boston he averaged 9.8 points per game but took 7.8 shots a game and hit 29 percent from three. Green has the potential, the athleticism to live up to that contract, he is a good player who shows you flashes but needs his game to mature. If he does, this could be a good deal for the Celtics. But four years is a bit of a risk.
Green wasn't worth 10 million / year before the heart condition, and certainly isn't worth 10 million now.

What kind of 'defensive potential' does this guy have? Is he going to be a Pippen or something? I'm trying to figure out what he even brings to the table to warrant that kind of money. Is this just Ainge trying to prove he wasn't an idiot for giving up Perkins?
Maybe if the Cs trade Pierce to the Lakers for Gasol. Otherwise, why pay close to $30 million for the SF position?
The talk of Jeff Green's "versatility" and "defensive potential" is complete nonsense. In his tenure at OKC, versatile meant he couldn't do anything above average despite repeatedly being given the opportunity. Defensive potential meant Brooks used him to guard 3 positions (SG/SF/PF) and he couldn't stop anyone despite being on the floor 35+ mins/game. What does he bring to the table? The purest definition of mediocrity you've ever seen.
This is good news for us. Every stupid decision that every other team makes it awesome for us. Still, Celtics have quietly built a decent young core around Rondo - Bradley, Green, Sullinger, Fab Melo. And they aint finished yet. I mean we had Courtney Fortson, Jeff Adrien and Greg Smith.
