The qualifying order for Lee was rescinded a day or so ago in order to be able to offer the contract to Asik. When that was done it was said that, according to the new CBA, if Asik's was matched that the Rockets could reinstate the qualifying offer to Lee in order to make him a RFA again.

My question is, now that Dragic's cap hold and Lowry's salary are off the books and the Rockets have the cap space for Asik without having to rescind the qualifying offer on Lee, can they go ahead and make him a RFA again or do they have to wait for the Asik offer sheet to play out?

The question of whether or not Lee should be brought back to a tanking team is besides the point -- I just am curious if anyone knows the rules on this matter.

As for the should of it -- I do think Lee should be brought back. It will make letting Martin go easier, and I believe he will end up getting a 6 mill/yr type deal, which is a contract that would have a lot of trade value.

I believe you are mistaken. The new collective bargaining agreement allows teams to undo the rescinding of a qualifying offer, thus making someone like Lee a RFA again. I am just not sure about the timing of it. Can it be done prior to the 11th or do they have to wait until the 14th?

I'm pretty sure the only situation Lee can become a restricted free agent again is if the Bulls match Asik.

Sorry, I was in fact mistaken. The Rockers can unrenounce the Bird rights and thus be able to offer more money than other teams, but they can not unrescind the qualifying offer which made Lee a RFA.

Again, my apologies.

Close thread.
