The Dodgers are talking to the Astros about a trade that would send Jed Lowrie to the Dodgers with minor-leaguers Zach Lee and Garrett Gould headed to Houston, according to Buster Olney of ESPN.com (via Twitter).

Previously, I wanted them to hold on to Lowrie. But given the nose dive, I would trade him simply because I think the return could be great.

Well, with the nose dive, other teams may be skittish on Lowrie, and hence, a great return may not be as realized as it was 3-4 weeks ago.

I think the Astros have to stick with him now and hope he gets hot between now and the trade deadline.

That's a fair point. Really all I'm letting you all know is that my personal opinion on it has flipped. I know you are all waiting anxiously to know how my feelings evolve regarding a variety of topics including: The Astros; James Coney Island; and how I every time I hear trade rumors regarding "Upton" my mind immediately goes to Kate.

If Lowrie can hit .280 with 25-30 HRs this year, these are numbers that Correa may never match at the MLB level. Correa has a higher potential, but has a long way to go in order to be a MLB player. There are no guarantees that Correa will ever make it to The Show. And even less guarantees that he make it to The Show and put up Lowrie's numbers.

I am also not sure if the Astros really need more minor leaguers now. At some point when the wave of minor leaguers show up (2014?) there will have to be veterans on the team to help them make the transition.

McHale said he learned more from the veterans than the manager/coach when he was a young player. I think the same applies here. The Astros need veterans down the road who have a proven track record of success and who can show the rookies the ropes.

look at the date of the thread folks. not sure why it was bumped. this thread is talking about the unsubstantiated rumors from before the eventual carlos lee proposal to the dodgers.

please lock.

I bumped it...because I didn't want to start a whole new thread about my thoughts on a Lowrie trade.

No guarantees that Lowrie will ever produce this type of year again as well.

His monthly average decline.
April .297
May .275
June .218
July .185

Lowrie is hitting .254 right now ... how do you suppose he ends up at .280? His career big league batting average? .253. His career OPS is .751 and he's sitting at .803 right now - chances are he'll continue to regress to a number around that career average. Even for as much pop as he's shown this year, he's still only slightly ahead of his career SLG number.

Don't get me wrong, I like Lowrie and I still think the trade Luhnow made to get him was superb, but ultimately he is who we thought he was - a nice player with limited upside, but with some value because of the position he plays.

I think they definitely could use more minor league pitching. A few look promising (Folty, McCullers, Cosart), but I don't see any "studs". Not saying the Dodgers 2 potential prospects are, but I think the idea in dealing Lowrie, Myers or Wandy at this point is to try and bolster our minors with some better pitching prospects.

Other positions seem to be super solid, besides catcher maybe.

1B - Singleton, Castro
2B - Deshields
SS - Correa, Villar, Fontana
3B - Duffy, Correa
OF - Ovando, Springer

just trying to help. there was a big thread on whether or not luhnow should trade lowrie a few weeks ago that would probably be a less confusing bump to rekindle the debate.

Confused me. I recognized this as the same deal as before, but thought maybe they were talking about it again.
