Previously worked for the San Antonio Spurs and the OKC Thunder. Dude's a baller, can't recall ever hearing about a major sports frachise GM as young as him.

Quote:
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Without a coach and facing a future that may not include five-time All-Star center Dwight Howard, the Orlando Magic are at something of a crossroads.

Now at least they have someone in charge.

The Magic introduced their new general manager Thursday, assigning 30-year-old Rob Hennigan with the task of reversing the fortunes of an NBA franchise that has been slipping since reaching the NBA Finals three years ago.

Theo Epstein was in his early 30s when he took over for the Red Sox IIRC.

Younger/new school GMs is all the rage in sports right now. If you still believe in the old fashioned ways of building teams (especially in baseball and basketball) you're fading out ... it's all about analytics and finding value now.

he was 28. It's amazing that he wasn't only GM but he was GM for a major franchise like the red sox

Good luck to him - he's got a lot of demolition work ahead.

He is lucky if his owner gives him five years to turn the franchise around, unlike the teflon GM of the Rockets.

Our GM is actually really smart...and puts his players in positions to be successful...too bad...he is having a really hard time getting the best available players...

Morey reminds me of Donnie Walsh- swap the two and both teams are about the same. Both find role players, both acuquire assests for big trades (melo) and sell high (david lee). Walsh just had the advantage of being in NY.

If he makes reasonably decent moves with a couple slight "unconventional" moves, he'll probably be the next young GM pegged as a some kinda whiz kid approaching the NBA field like he's some kind of new age tech drone who puts computations over feelings.
