Displaying the US flag is divisive.

At least according to this Florida-based company.

What a quote:

"It seems to me only a small number of people are upset about this."

Maybe only a few vocal ones right now. But I guarantee that thousands (if not millions) of people will be upset about this once they hear about it.

This sounds like a good company, otherwise, though. Of course, this company and this CEO will be crucified in the press. Any goodwill they've built up by doing good things (on site childcare, etc) will be obliterated by the bad press this action will receive nationwide.

Uh last time I checked Florida was part of America. So I don't see how displaying the symbol of the country you're in during a time of tragedy can possibly be divisive. And if some people don't like it, just tell them too damn bad.

I argued the same point when Machmoud Abdul-Rauf did not want to stand for the National Anthem. A company's rules and regulations cannot infringe upon a person's rights as an American citizen.

I hope some people protest this idiotic choice. I also hope the employees who were told to remove their small flags from their cubicles call the ACLU.

DREAMer, I thought the ACLU was anti-American. Won't the employees have to display Afghani flags if the ACLU is brought into this?

Changed their mind? That's too bad. I was going to be happy that were brave enough to take a stand, but I guess they just weren't. In my office, they've passed out flags and encouraged people to wear certain colors or ribbons or whatever. I don't need that sort of inculcation and don't appreciate it. And I don't think the workplace is the place for every discussion employees want to have and the law has allowed companies to put limits on those discussions. Patriotism is one, imo. Frankly, I find all the flag-waving pretty scary.

I'm glad they second guessed this. I think the flag waving is a great sign. It shows that, despite all the problems and controversies the country has gone through in it's history, that they prove that they're a family and they're in this together. What I find ironic though is that people are disturbed by people getting together to wave the flag, but are proud when people get together and wave the symbol for the Houston Rockets or their favorite team.

I've got no problem with the flag waving. And if I were employed, I would be proud to wear read, white and blue. I don't see a thing wrong with it; it certainly doesn't scare me. What is scary is that it took an event such as this to awaken our patriotism. We live in the best country in the world. We should be proud of that.

Umm why is it scary? Patriotism is beautiful and inspiring.

We are not fanatics or crazy people, we are Democratic Citizens.

A United Nation is not scary, its something to be proud of.

I will try to respect your opinion... for now.
