Was there some medical breakthrough that now allows someone to regrow cartilage when there's none left?

Didn't think so. Role player if his knees can stand it

Really wish he'd just accept his injury and stay away. He's only going to damage himself even more trying to prove he can stil play. Put your pride aside.

I think a break from basketball was good for Roy. His knees should be better after resting them for a year. If he comes back with the same confidence (many don't after injuries because they are scared of getting hurt again), I can see him being a great role player with flashes of brilliance in the fourth. It's okay if he chooses to lay it in rather than dunk it on the break, but chances are he will shy from contact.

I would take the risk on Roy, it's hard to find go to guys in the fourth.

A lot of people who love what they do don't want to retire and live the dream. What's the point of banging chicks every day and eating (that's the dream right?). It gets boring after a while.

Maybe if he takes his time and rehabs over a long period of time he could fill a role similar to Grant Hill?

Playing in the NBA is probably his "dream life."

Anyway, it's over for him. If he tries to play again it could be depressing. With that said, Oden & Roy should sign with the Heat.

I know they are pretty far in the field of regrowing cartilage, don't know if they already tested it on humans.

This article is from 2010:

Impossible to predict without an update on his knees. Doesn't he have virtually no cartilage? I would really love to see him back, does that affect Portland at all? Did they release him or amnesty?

Ya, and it's not like he can go much longer. 20 years is like the max you can play in this league, you have like 40-50 years after that. That's a long time to live the dream, you need to take advantage of every year if you can make money, it's a business decision imo.

If he's in shape I think that's his floor. He didn't have any serious injury, he just stopped playing because doctors told him he didn't any cartilage in his knees. All he needs to do is get in shape and he should be a low risk, high reward move for one team.

I'm excited to see who would want him and see what he has left. One of my favorite players of all time. Such a humble person on and off the court.

Your cartilage doesn't recover, it only becomes worse with time. I think there's some sort of miracle procedure that allows you to grow your cartilage or replace it with some kind of artifical substance but I dunno if he took it. Anyway I think Dmorey should take a look at him ASAP and see if he's ok, would love to have him as a 6th man backing up K-Mart. Considering his game wasn't dependent on athleticism anyway there's a very high chance he becomes a star again if he's really healthy.
