The Mariners no-hit the Dodgers at Safeco field last night using 6 different pitchers. They tied the Astros record of 6 pitchers used in a no-hitter at Yankee stadium in 2003.

I'll never forget that day, I was on a college roadtrip with my dad staying at his friend's house in baltimore. I got on my friend's dad's computer, checked ESPN and was stunned by the headline. As a brief history lesson, that no-hitter featured some of the Astros most famous pitchers of the last decade and some no-name journeymen.

1) Roy Oswalt
2) Pete Munro
3) Kirk Saarloos
4) Brad Lidge
5) Octavio Dotel
6) Billy Wagner

Wish we had that 7-8-9 with Roy, Pettitte, Clemens and Backe

Lidge Dotel Wagner was such an unbelievably dominant back end bullpen. That year if a starter got to the 6th inning with a lead, it seemed like it was pretty much automatic we won.

I was in Houston that day. Sitting at my uncles table playing Euchre and watching the game on TV.

I remember Brandon Backe saying afterwards at the time he was confused on why he wasn't getting the call to go in towards the end of the game considering the game was a blowout. He had no clue what was going on.

Lidge-Dotel-Wagner was awesome but the lesser-remembered Qualls-Wheeler-Lidge trio 2 years later was also beastly. That trio combined for 7 shutout innings and 8k's in the famous Astros/Braves 18-inning game.

We were really fortunate to have awesome bullpens back in the heyday. The good ol' days....

Dotel had FOUR strikeouts in an inning of work.

Ahhhhh man, those were the days. I was actually at Yankee Stadium the day AFTER the no hitter, it was my first time in NYC. I remember feeling so bummed about missing the no hitter by one day. Dotel, Lidge, Wagner, DAMN. What a ridiculous combo. I miss when we were good.
