I moved to Austin last year and one thing I said I was going to do is start fishing. Well it's been 9 months and I haven't been once, so I'd like to change that. Can anyone recommend some good spots for bank/pier fishing in the area? I really don't care what kind of fish....really just want somewhere to go relax and have a chance of catching something. I've done a little research and have read mixed reports on places including Lake Pflugerville and some of the spots in Round Rock.

I'm living in North Austin now (Burnet & Anderson Ln), but am willing to drive 30 mins or so in any direction. Thanks.

You might be surprised what you can catch up by Red Bud, below Tom Miller dam. Seriously. Some nice bass and crappie up there...
Good luck!

You might want to get into kayak angling.. it's pretty popular and Austin Kayak is based there. I live in apt and have no room for a boat so this was the next best thing. I can get to spots full boaters can't.. then packup in the back of the truck or rack and drop in somewhere else. You'll do a lot better fishing from the lake towards the shore or parrallel to the shore than bank fishing. (plus less hangups and less bumping into other bank fishers)

here's a few pics of my rig.. pic 2 (I had to get tags due to trolling motor but it was like $7.50 for 3 years)
