Similar to the Kickstarter project for the Double-Fine Adventure game, we have a Kickstarter project for Wasteland 2 that opened up today: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/inxile/wasteland-2 A higher goal for this one (RPGs can be expensive), but they've just about hit half of it already. FYI, several of those involved worked at Interplay and other studios, making games like Fallout 1+2 (which were the "successors" to Wasteland), Baldur's Gate, The Bard's Tale, etc. Very excited about all these new opportunities. Chris Avellone has talked about doing a Kickstarter project as well, so possibly will get another "classic-style" PC RPG too. BTW, for those of you who missed it, the Double-Fine Kickstarter project ended just a few hours ago: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/66710809/double-fine-adventure $3.3M+ raised. I didn't watch it all, but they had a pretty funny live webcast earlier in the day (Ron Gilbert put a shoe on his head for $100).
More or less. And looks like they met the goal. Currently at $950K+. Should hopefully be able to hit the "higher goal" of $1.5M too I think. Love these Kickstarter projects.
For those of you like me who were never aware of Wasteland, I thought this was a pretty good "Let's Play" of the game: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL74BAB66E726A508F Made me more interested in the project. Project is at $1.3M right now. Should easily get $1.5M, but curious to see where it ends up. Also, semi-related, this was an interesting talk by Tim Cain about the development behind Fallout (which at one point was Wasteland 2, as mentioned previously):
Almost at $1.4M. Bumping this thread to keep awareness high, but I'm also curious to see what people think about Kickstarter (and this was the most recent thread). I checked out a few other indie Kickstarter projects, and found a few games that looked nice. Between that and possibly more "high-profile" projects (along with a possible Obsidian project, I read today that the Tex Murphy guys are thinking about Kickstarter), I'm thinking maybe we should get a Kickstarter thread. Not sure if it should be just for games, but think it would be a great way to raise awareness for a couple of different projects. I probably wouldn't make a thread for any of the indie games I saw, but I'd probably post them in a Kickstarter thread. Thoughts? I'll probably do it anyway, but thought I'd kill 2 birds with 1 stone in this thread.
I never played Wasteland but I did go ahead and sign up for this one. I also did the Double Fine one. Kickstarter is a great concept. I have a close friend who funded their product through it. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1689824368/capta-stick-it-lean-it-wrap-it-attach-it
I loved the original interplay games, and I just bought it. Did not realize so much of what I considered "best games ever" was made by the same company.
Yeah, same here. For some reason, I blanked on the fact that they made the Star Trek adventure game, despite all the hours I spent on the game (including the "Interplay" logo at the beginning).
Bump for video of in-game camera work. Looks awesome.
You have to donate a certain amount, but yes, you could get a copy of the game. The Kickstarter is over, so you can't use that anymore. They might be accepting donations through Paypal though. I think the amount required to get the game might be a little higher though. At higher pledge amounts, you'd get additional goodies.
Mentioned this in the Eternity thread, but if you did miss the Kickstarter for Wasteland 2, you can still support the game from their recently opened online store: http://wasteland.inxile-entertainment.com/store $20 for a digital release still. In addition to that, the game was added to the $165 (and up) tiers of the Eternity project. There was a pretty decent update today, although I kind of skimmed over it (been really busy lately).
New update with a very in-depth look at gameplay (~17 minutes):
WL2 First Look 720 from Ranger Fin on Vimeo.
Love lots of things from this video (music, features, basic gameplay, art direction, etc.). Looking forward to its eventual release.
