I wish someone can come up with statistics on gas prices during election years. Always seems to go down.

I think it's your massive illogical leaps that people don't get.

Gas prices are high because of Obama!
- Why?
Because domestic oil production is down!
- Domestic oil production is actually up.
But oil production on federal lands is down!

Please, explain to me how the decrease in oil production only on federal lands by 270,000 bbl/day caused the price of oil to spike when domestic consumption is 20millon bbl/day and the worldwide supply is 87.5million bbl/day.

I don't know about historically but in 08 the prices were at an all time high. I was in california that summer and gas was over 4 bucks.

I always heard the same thing. I heard that gas prices always go down in an election year. You can imagine my surprise, when gas prices were going higher for most of the year. I thought the gas prices.

The AAA's fuel gauge report is updated daily with prices from the OPIS(Oil Price Information Service). Over 120k gas stations report send in their gas prices to the OPIS. Highest gas prices reported was in the 2008 presidential election year.

http://fuelgaugereport.aaa.com/?redi....com/index.asp

You can also get 8 year-historical price graph from Gasbuddy. Gas was cheaper in the 3 years before the 2008 election year. Gas was also cheaper in the 3 years after the 2008 election year. The cheapest gas prices were after the last presidential election was over. It dropped to under $2 in December 2008. Everybody told me that gas prices would be more expensive in the weeks after an election, but it didn't ring true.

Not what I said. Never once did I claim domestic oil production is down. Please don't put words in my mouth (reportable offense).

Here is a simple question for you. What countries have the lowest gas prices in the world? then you should try to figure out why they have the lowest gas prices since that is what we are discussing.

The cheapest gas is in countries with wide spread poverty. The gas price are subsidized by the government. The oil companies are nationalized government entities. If you find oil in your backyard, it is usually a curse. The socialist governments own the mineral rights.

Cheapest gas prices is from a socialist regime that nationalized over 60 private sector oil service companies and assets from oil giants, Exxon Mobil Conoco Phillips

By all means, report me then. I'm sure the mods/admins will mete out punishment accordingly.

The countries with the lowest gas prices in the world are oil producers. The price of crude oil has a huge effect on the price of gasoline. Taxes make up the rest. The fact the U.S. needs to import some 52-55% of the oil we consume has the most effect on the prices we see at the pump.

The oil production Obama cut on federal lands amounts to less than 1.4% of our consumption. Are you honestly going to tell me that because we had to import that additional 1.4% to cover our consumption (assuming consumption didn't go down), the price of gasoline skyrocketed?

The cost of a fillup has exceeded OP's original post. It costs $58,000-85,000 to fill up your vehicle in Tennessee.

Damn Obama, that's not a smart move by you in a tight election. Why did you choose to do that?

Typically, fuel prices are tied closely to the direction of the oil market. But, Kloza said, gasoline’s cost has been inflated relative to crude, leaving little room to move higher as the summer season ends.

“Just because crude is moving higher doesn’t mean gasoline is,” Kloza said. “I’m not saying prices are going to plunge, but gasoline will
normalize and not fetch as substantial a premium to crude.

It is because Obama sent that Hurricane to disrupt the Republican Convention without considering the ramifications for gulf oil production.

Oh, that evil man.

If you are a PHD in Physics, you understand that fossil fuels are a finite game and will never be able to grow enough to meet the demand of an 8 billion person planet living at the quality of life of Western Civilization. Your perspective is broader, longer term (and more apocalyptic) than a next quarter businessman or a next election politician.

Indeed - thank you for presenting such well spoken and timely information, texxx.

It is rare that you find someone who has the foresight to understand that a world with cheap and abundant energy is most likely a worst case scenario for the human race.

Our goals should be focused on transferring from an economy based on consumption into an economy based on zero sum.

The sad part about it is that in places like California, .67 cents of every gallon is different forms of taxation! The rest of the country its around .50 cents per gallon.

Its not broken out in line item form the way sales tax is because Americans would be up in arms about the taxation.

Instead they blame oil companies when 20%+ of gas costs are to pay the government 3x the sales tax.
