So you should lie to them instead and say you will play them when you have no intentions of doing so? Also, he had no real control over where he went so us telling him that doesn't really affect anything.

This is an indictment of Morey.

It can't be a good thing when guys are hoping they don't get drafted by your organization. Why not get his rights then tell him that? We've all heard the Rox theory about the D-League & developing players but it doesn't change the fact that the players don't like it or the negative connotation that comes with it. Management's handling of players leaves something to be desired at times.

I agree... you have to keep it in perspective. There was no room at the inn. But at the same time, it just shows how players (especially first round picks) view the D-League. There's a stigma (even though there shouldn't be) and they view it as an insult... obviously it motivated Hibbert.

It's only one comment, but it does open my eyes a little.

Personally I'd rather see the Rockets change the league and make the NBDL more of a true minor league, but they may take a hit with some players as a result.

You can say you want to develop him slowly, d-league is okay, too. But saying he will play there for 1-2 YEARS? That's just horrible.
Yes he had no control, but he won't want to be a part of the Rockets after hearing that from our staff, that's for sure.

Pretty sure that's exactly what you tell him.

There is no reason at all to lie to the guy.

if you are good and ready to contribute, you will not be sent to d-league.
simple as that. look at parsons/chase. they were both 2nd rounders that got ample opportunity without spending time in the d-league.

do you think we would send a rookie tim duncan to RGV?

Why? You might as well be honest with them since you are not recruiting them, your drafting them.

So? Doesn't he know that's what we do with all our rookies? Except for our second rounders of course.

Maybe Morey was eyeing him. Either way no way Hibbert was falling to 25 on the board.

If anything, I think it's better to be up front with players, which is exactly what they had done. We didn't have a chance at drafting him anyway....

It'll affect you when the guy becomes a free agent. Players talk & have long memories. When you're competing with other organizations for free agents, how you treat players will matter. Especially if we're talking similiar dollars.

Damn it took him three to four years, if it would've been his rookie year then he could've mention the Rockets, he could've saved the small talk!

We initially were picking 25th (& traded down) & Hibbert went 17th. With the way Morey likes to move around on draft night who knows what could have happened? At any rate, sounds like Hibbert didn't want to come here.

Why would he when we had two hall of fame centers on our roster?.....

You wanted the organization to lie to him so that he could ride the pine behind them until Deke retired 2 seasons later? He probably could have figured it out on his own.

I don't even know what the point of talking about this is.....
