    Lakers’ Odom skips camp opener after trade debacle

    EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP)—Lakers forward Lamar Odom didn’t show up for Los Angeles’ first workout of training camp, apparently still furious about the club’s aborted attempt to trade him in a megadeal for Chris Paul.

    Pau Gasol, the four-time All-Star forward also included in the deal, showed up for practice at the Lakers’ training complex Friday.

    Odom was thought to be headed to New Orleans in the deal for Paul, the Hornets’ superstar point guard.

    Odom was the NBA’s sixth man of the year last season, and the veteran big man has spent all but one season of his career with Los Angeles’ two NBA teams. He’s also at the nexus of Hollywood’s love affair with the Lakers, given his marriage to Khloe Kardashian and their reality show.

    I think Odom is a guy that owes his success to Phil Jackson, and i think it's very likely he falls back down to underachiever either in LA or elsewhere.

    Odom said he had a dream the night before the trade went down that he showed up to training camp and everyone started laughing at him for no reason.

    If I had a work dream like that, the first thing I would want to do is relay it, sniffling, to broadcast media. That would be priority one.

    He was/is an underachiever in LA. His numbers are fairly solid (could be much better) but he's extremely inconsistent and doesn't show up all the time. He's 32 now and has a lot of miles on him. The end is near for him with or without PJ.
