Raptors set to name Dwane Casey head coach
By David Aldridge, TNT analyst

The Toronto Raptors are expected to name Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Dwane Casey as their next head coach on Tuesday, according to league sources.

Numerous media outlets reported over the weekend that the Raptors had settled on Casey as their first choice to replace Jay Triano, who was not retained earlier this month. Celtics assistant Lawrence Frank had also interviewed for the Raptors job.

Casey has been a finalist for numerous jobs the last couple of years, most notably in Atlanta last summer, but had been a runner-up until he aced interviews with the Raptors' management and ownership groups. After a final meeting with minority owner Larry Tannenbaum on Monday in New York, the Raptors were officially prepared to offer Casey the job.
Casey has been one of the NBA's top defensive minds for the last decade, ever since his days in Seattle with George Karl. In Dallas, he has spent the last three years as Rick Carlisle's chief assistant, helping develop the Mavericks' defensive schemes en route to their title this season.
Toronto will be Casey's second head coaching job. He received high marks for coaching the Timberwolves for a year and a half from 2005 to early 2007. In his second season, Minnesota was 20-20 midway through the year when Casey was fired.
Frank, who was also up for the Warriors' head coaching job, has subsequently interviewed for the Detroit Pistons' job, and is a finalist for that job along with former Hawks coach Mike Woodson, who had a very good interview with the Pistons on Monday, according to a league source. Casey had also received consideration for the Detroit job before Toronto zeroed in on him as its choice.

Will be interesting to see what how he will attempt to infuse some defense into that team. It might just be a matter of trading away whoever they can and waiting for some burdensome contracts to expire.

Reminds me of the Thibeadou signing with the Bulls last summer, ie defensive coordinator from championship team becoming a head coach. Whether it'll be successful as the Bulls signing remains to be seen. Although I don't think it'll be hard to improve upon their record from last season.

I really hope he puts Bargnani out of his misery and starts playing him either as an sf or a pf. Dude's too soft to play C, and his skillset is wasted by trying to bang in the post and get rebs.

Not a bad choice if the Raptors end up with Dwane Casey... My projection they probably end up in 10th place in the East standings

Dwane Casey vs. Raptors defense = Unstoppable force vs. immovable object.

Such a combination of contradictory items creates a logical paradox that threatens to destroy us all!
