I like this deal a lot for the Warriors. They've got to get away from the losing-basketball-stat-machines that they've been riding since the Run TMC days.

Holiday - Williams - Ellis - Turner will be an interesting pile of guards that love to shoot and shoot and shoot.

Also they all need the ball to be effective, and Turner can't shoot. A Holiday and Ellis back court won't work. If a back court of Ellis and Curry couldn't work, what make people think that a Holiday(pure PG) and Ellis back court will work?

Unless Ellis learns to playoff the ball, this would be a bad acquisition for Philly.

Jrue is ever-so-slightly more gifted physically than Curry. The Warriors would never put Curry on LeBron lol. This would only work because Jrue has slightly better tools to defend SGs than Monta, and Monta can guard PGs with the quickness.

I still think an Ellis for No. 2 pick is the perfect trade for both teams involved, I like Iguoldala, but I think a no. 2 pick is a better asset, even in a weak draft.

I think Iggy is a better overall player. But he is older, with some health issues, and with a bigger contract. It's a pretty fair trade. Looks like both teams would get what they need.

I don't see how. Both teams appear to be getting what they want and the salaries match for an even 1-1 swap. What need do they have to make the deal more complicated by involving a third team?

Well, if the Rockets did happen to jump into the deal (which I seriously doubt they will...), I'm 100% sure it will be to try to pull Marreese Speights away from the 76ers. Like I said, it almost certainly won't happen, but I seriously wouldn't have a problem with the Rockets trying to pull that off.

I share your skepticism about this helping the Sixers. I need some time to mull on it. One obvious thought is could they hope to get anybody better for Iggy than Monta. I doubt it.

if it happens, i like this trade for both teams, but i think it would make the warriors really good.

curry, iggy, wright, lee, beidrins make a very big, very tough defensive team. oh and they can score too.

add highly regarded defensive strategist mike malone and they might be a surprise playoff team next season.

Good trade for both teams. Curry can operate more freely without Ellis. If this trade goes down expect Curry to be on the all-star team next year.

Ellis is a very talented player, but the truth is, his talents have rarely translated to any real tangible positve effects for the warriors on the court. His +/- as well as winning % as well as the warriors defensive AND offensive ratings with him on/off the court has been either only slightly slightly better (last season) or horridly worst in both offense/defense when hes on the court.

Furthermore, a backcourt of Ellis and Curry, while sometimes exciting and entertaining, has also been horrible defensively, counterproductive as both players are seemingly taking turns handling the ball/playing pg and a real concern in terms of chemistry.

In a choice between Ellis or Curry, I like most warriors fan, prefer, curry. Curry is cheaper (rookie contract), has a position, plays it well, makes his teammates better (offensive ratings/+ - with curry on court substantially better), younger AND lastly a bigger fan favorite. Curry is a great shooter, talented facilitator, crafty playmaker and most importantly as a pg, players like to play with him, due to the fact, he doesnt hold the ball nor does he suffer from a desire to dribble it to death.

Ellis IMO is much more talented, physically gifted and exposive... but unfortunately he lacks a true position. I've always likened him to Derrick Rose without the handles and pg skills, though to his credit Ellis is a much better defender when he wants to be. Since he cant really play pg (atleast hasnt shown he can yet) and is an undersize sg, its much harder to build a team around him. Philly would be a great fit actually if they did not already have both lou williamson AND Holiday. Turner is a big sg who has pg abilities is the perfect type of complement for Ellis.
Would you trade Ellis for Kevin Martin + something?

Source: Monta trade talks 'pretty hot'
Posted on: June 9, 2011 4:16 pm

DALLAS – The Warriors and representatives for Monta Ellis are working cooperatively to see if a trade to a contending team can be arranged, a deal that would likely happen around the NBA draft later this month, a person with knowledge of the discussions told CBSSports.com.

“It’s pretty hot,” the person familiar with the talks said.

The Trail Blazers, Lakers, Hawks, Bulls, and 76ers are among the teams expressing the most sincere interest, league sources said Thursday. A possible deal between Golden State and Philadelphia involving Ellis and Andre Iguodala is a “50-50” proposition at the moment, a person with knowledge of those talks said.

The Sixers have fielded several calls about Iguodala, but executives who’ve spoken with them detect reluctance in the Philadelphia front office to trade Iguodala in a salary dump. The Sixers want a player of value in return, sources said.

Ellis, a prolific scorer who may not fit long term in an undersized backcourt with Stephen Curry under defensive-minded coach Mark Jackson, would be a good fit for a playoff-contending team seeking an additional perimeter scorer and penetrator to take some of the load off its primary scorer.

Ellis, 25, has two more years at $11 million each with an early-termination option for 2013-14, also at $11 million. In 80 games for Golden State last season, he averaged 24.1 points and a career-high 5.6 assists.

Probably not, though i like a martin + curry back court more than ellis/curry, it wouldnt make much of a difference, not for the Warriors anyways. Furthermore, I also like to follow the Rockets and I dont think Ellis + Lowry is a better fit than Martin + Lowry. IMO Martin and Ellis are probably about the same in terms of value/ranking, but while Ellis is perhaps more talented/explosive, Martin is soo much more efficient and versatile (FITS MORE TEAMS).

Ellis may be more talented than Martin, but he is also a unique talent that requires a very specific situation to fully utilize the positive while minimizing the negatives of his skills. Hes a decent defender at pg, but isnt fully capable of playing pg. He is a skilled scorer, yet too often "hogs" the ball and is an undersized defender to boot. Ellis needs a player like the younger Kidd, BDavis, or JoeJohnson or even Broy or Rudy Fernandez as a backcourt mate, basically someone with enough pgs skills but can defend sgs.
