Sources: Warriors, Sixers talking trade Email Print Comments2 By Ric Bucher ESPN The Magazine Archive The Golden State Warriors and Philadelphia 76ers have discussed a trade that would send the Warriors' leading scorer, Monta Ellis, to the 76ers for Andre Iguodala, according to league sources, including one with direct knowledge of Golden State's thinking. Monta Ellis Ellis Iguodala Iguodala One source stressed that completion of the deal is not imminent but that it has merits for both sides. The Warriors would beef up their perimeter size and defense with Iguodala, who is 6'6" and 207 pounds and can play shooting guard or small forward. Iguodala would be paired with the 6'3", 185-pound Stephen Curry at point guard and 6'9" small forward Dorell Wright. The Sixers, meanwhile, would be getting an electric scoring guard in the 6-foot-3, 185-pound Ellis, create an opening at small forward for rookie Evan Turner, and slice some money off their payroll. Ellis is owed $11 million for each of the next three seasons. Iguodala makes $13.5 million next season and the contract increases by $1.2 million each of the next two years. Their current salaries are close enough that the swap could be made without any other additional considerations and meet league salary-cap rules. This would be one incredibly interesting trade. Both teams would be getting what they need. The Sixers would get a guy that can actually create for himself on offense, while the Warriors would be getting a great defender that can create for their shooters.
Yeah, the Warriors do have shooters to cover for Iguodala, while he would dramatically improve their defense. I think GSW would immediately get better as a team with this trade. How much better the Sixers get depends more on how big a jump Evan Turner can make next season than on Monta Ellis IMO. But a very interesting trade scenerio for both teams.
I like the trade for the Warriors cause Iggy would fill their need and I love Monta Ellis but the last thing the Sixers need is another small combo guard. They already have Jrue Holiday who's more of a scoring PG rather than one that creates for others and they also have Louis Williams who's a combo guard.
Warriors, a good offensive team get excellent D, and 76ers, a good defensive team get excellent O. Make sense, right? hmm
That could work our to be supberb trade for Philly if Turner lives up expectations. It will give more playing time to Young as well once they resign him.
This would be a great trade for both teams. It's funny how wherever Jerry West goes things just seem to start making more sense.
As warriors fan, I would love this trade. Ellis is a very talented player, but the truth is, his talents have rarely translated to any real tangible positve effects for the warriors on the court. His +/- as well as winning % as well as the warriors defensive AND offensive ratings with him on/off the court has been either only slightly slightly better (last season) or horridly worst in both offense/defense when hes on the court. Furthermore, a backcourt of Ellis and Curry, while sometimes exciting and entertaining, has also been horrible defensively, counterproductive as both players are seemingly taking turns handling the ball/playing pg and a real concern in terms of chemistry. In a choice between Ellis or Curry, I like most warriors fan, prefer, curry. Curry is cheaper (rookie contract), has a position, plays it well, makes his teammates better (offensive ratings/+ - with curry on court substantially better), younger AND lastly a bigger fan favorite. Curry is a great shooter, talented facilitator, crafty playmaker and most importantly as a pg, players like to play with him, due to the fact, he doesnt hold the ball nor does he suffer from a desire to dribble it to death. Ellis IMO is much more talented, physically gifted and exposive... but unfortunately he lacks a true position. I've always likened him to Derrick Rose without the handles and pg skills, though to his credit Ellis is a much better defender when he wants to be. Since he cant really play pg (atleast hasnt shown he can yet) and is an undersize sg, its much harder to build a team around him. Philly would be a great fit actually if they did not already have both lou williamson AND Holiday. Turner is a big sg who has pg abilities is the perfect type of complement for Ellis.
Andre Iguodala fights through knee issue Posted by Inside Hoops Apr 27 Marcus Hayes of the Philadelphia Daily News reports: Andre Iguodala fights through knee issue The chondromalacia in Iguodala’s right knee, a chronic condition that dates back more than 5 years, flared in mid-March. That’s right about the time Phillies second baseman Chase Utley was shelved with the same condition, possibly for as long as 3 months. Had it happened earlier this season, Iguodala would have been shelved, too. Had the Sixers been out of the playoff picture, Iguodala would have been shut down. Instead, he played for the next month. The knee cost Iguodala only the last two games of the regular season, when Sixers management insisted he sit, general manager Ed Stafanski said. Then, on that knee, four times in 9 days in the NBA playoffs’ marquee matchup, as the Sixers faced the Miami Heat, Iguodala played. He drew the masochistic duty of defending LeBron James, the world’s most punishing small forward, and Dwyane Wade, currently the world’s best shooting guard. He also was asked to be the hub of the offense. In agony. “It hurts, because you can’t really lift,” Iguodala said. “You go into a jump shot and you feel like it’s going to give at times. You feel a pinch. You don’t know if the pain is going to come back. You’re thinking about it every shot. Every plant. That’s probably the toughest.” Read more: http://www.insidehoops.com/blog/?p=7582#ixzz1OZ75tjNM
How about when he starts playing again (82 game season) 3-4 games a week? Damaged goods is not worth it.
He's been relatively health his whole career up until this point though, maybe it's just a one off type of injury?
