Even though, technically, the season is past the mid point, since the All-Star game is coming, I figured it was a good time to decide who should be deemed the MVP thus far.

To me, there is no clear cut winner. Yes Martin is great on the offensive end, Scola has done well in the post and is halfway decent on defense (he at least fills some space), and Lowry has stepped up his game since being handed the starting role. Even though it's hard to declare him the half season MVP, I think Chuck should be mentioned. I've been very impressed with his improvement on the offensive end, and he's still doing what he does best on defense.

All that said, I give a slight edge to......Kyle Lowry. He was thrust into the starting lineup and has taken full advantage of it. He's done a great job running the team and making good decisions (for the most part).

Who would you declare the half season MVP?

Edit: I like how Tmac1Yao11 listed his, so I thought I'd do the same:
    1a) Lowry
    1b) Martin
    2) Hayes

It's obviously Kevin Martin. He's single-handily kept the Rockets in a ton of games this season.

And Scola isn't even close to being somewhat decent on defense...

Check the win/loss column while he was out.

    W/o Martin, we're probably Clippers-level bad....possibly Kings-level terrible. No question.

Lowry definitely deserves some love for keeping things together at the 1, Hayes for being Hayes, and Scola for being quietly solid as a rock. Every year, this guy shows up more consistent and gets 3 ppg better. He's not an all-star, but he's greatly underappreciated around here.

    The Monocle.

Seriously, though, you can't have Adelman for "MVP." He doesn't even "P" (not that P, you smarty pants, I meant P as in "player"). :p I voted Adelman just to throw your results off.

When did Landry move over to the 1? ;)

On a serious note, one of the reasons I gave the edge to Lowry because I feel he shows up on both ends. Martin probably makes the biggest difference in the win/loss column (of course, Dave may have something to say about that), but I really like what Lowry has done.

Curse you! To be honest, I put that just to see if anyone was THAT upset with the team that they just felt they had to vote for someone else. I guess we've found the first of my victims!

It seems strange to name an MVP for a team that has won less than half their games.

Martin doesn't attack the defense.. he just flows perfectly through the game and scores when the defense has a weak spot. You may argue that it can win games, and yeah of course it can, but Martin can't impose his will in a game. He can give what the D gives him, but can't create anything. IMO he draws fouls that the refs shouldn't even give to him. I'm not dogging on him, he's too passive of a player. He doesn't really win games.

That's just my opinion. But still a good player, considerable for Rockets MVP obviously.

    Moving on.. Per game stats

    Martin 43% FG, 40% 3PFG, 23.2 PPG, 2.4 Assists, 3 Rebounds, .94 Steals

    Scola 50% FG, 19 PPG, 8.3 Rebounds, 2.5 Assists

    Lowry 40% FG, 35% 3PFG, 11.6 PPG, 6.4 Assists, 3.9 Rebounds, 1.48 Steals

Hard to decide between those 3..

Agree that this team has NO MVP but if I had to choose then it would probably be Martin HOWEVER I find it hard to give it to a guy that got abused by Peja and Afflalo in the past 5 days.
