So my question is, if for whatever reasons, we can't land a couple good players or an allstar/superstar, who would you want traded for picks, young players and cap space/relief? Things to think about for rebuilding, which we all know, but just a simple reminder. () Cap relief. You don't want to pay luxury tax for no playoff appearance. () Cap space. A few decent names are gonna be on the market, whether or not they are restricted or not. (..ie M.Gasol, W.Chandler, J.Green). () Picks. No brainer. More picks, the better chances of moving up the lottery as well, or should I say down? () More prospects. So the question again. Which players would you be okay with trading away to rebuild properly? Or would you rather try the same thing last year and regardless of how the trade deadline ended, make an attempt at the playoffs.
I would be willing to trade anyone except PPat, Williams, Ish and Lowry. I would have mixed feelings about Lee and Hayes being moved. I feel like I probably named too many people, but these are the guys I really like and want to keep in a Rockets uniform.
Nobody on this team in untouchable. If you're going to rebuild you obviously want to keep most of your young players and there are always some guys you'd rather keep (e.g. Patterson), however everybody should be available for the right price. One thing that Morey will probably look forward to in a trade, no matter if the team is rebuilding or retooling, is sending out more players than the team is getting back in return.
If we are rebuilding, EVERYONE is on the table but Martin and Scola MUST go. They have the most value and could net a great return from some teams.
the only players I think are worth keeping on this team are: Patrick Patterson Terrence Williams everyone else should be available.
I agree partly, that Scola and martin MUST go. But I do not think PP and Twill should be on the table. Unless ofcourse, for the right price as HMMMHMM mentions. I would most definitely like to get as many 2011 first rounders (most likely through Brooks, Scola, Martin and Yao) and use those as trading bait to get lower in the draft.
Yea, agree PPat and Williams would be the hardest to let go because they are the type of pieces you'd hope to get back in rebuilding but at the same time...if the right deal comes along, I'm not afraid to say good bye to them either.
Scola, AB, and Miller need to go along with some fillers....im willing to part with Twill if he can get us a star but not Big Pat.
Where's the other vets on this poll -- Battier, Hayes, etc? I think we should move Battier to a contender as a favor to him if we're rebuilding. Anyway, no one on the team is so special that they can't be traded. I also don't see that there are individuals who must be traded. I think the dynamics of the market are too unpredictable to be prescriptive about who stays and who goes. But, I do see some general guidelines to follow: * We have a few vets that can bring back something worthwhile, so at least some of them should be traded. Pick among Martin, Scola, Battier, Brooks, Lowry. * We need more defense, and we've got some serious matadors in the rotation. You don't need to get rid of all of them, but should eliminate a couple to make the hole smaller: Martin, Scola, Brooks, Budinger being the chief among them. * If there's a market, no reason to hold on to Yao's contract unless you're still holding out hope for a miraculous recovery. Obviously, don't want to take on an albatross, but a star or a TPE would be better than nothing. * We should probably unload one of Lowry and Brooks. They're both good starting-quality players, but putting one at SG is probably not ideal in the long-term. * If I were to put anyone on an untouchables list it would probably be Chuck Hayes. If someone wanted to give up something good for him, I'd take it. But, in general I expect no team would be willing to pay close to what he's worth to us in a trade (or free agency).
It seems insane to be willing to part with one of the most efficient scorers in the game today (if not ever) , but I can understand why folks aren't in love with Martin.
That was my vote as well. I had to think about Williams for a bit. I wanted to include Lee in there as well. I am a huge fan of two-way players and all three are just that. They are young and full of potential too. Of course, there is not such thing as an untouchable player on our team. But I would put players like Scola, Brooks, (any exp contract), Budinger, Hill higher on the list than the three mentioned earlier.
I do not see Martin as a must go. Martin is not some player that decreases the growth of a younger player. I see Martin more as a player that could pull us in a superstar. Anything less, I would have a hard time seeing him go.
SCREW THIS WE ARE FIGHTING UNTIL THE END AAAAAGGHHH!!!!! ROCKETS FAN THRU THICK AND THIN! FINAL VICTORY IS STILL WITHIN OUR GRASP!
The most competitive Rockets teams over the years have included the names Malone, Sampson, Olajuwon and Yao. The most competitive teams in the NBA today include back to the basket postup players with names like Duncan, Chandler, Okafor, Bynum, Howard, and Garnett. The trend away from back to the basket Centers allows you to also include players like Pau Gasol, Noah, and Bosh. Unless you think with drop-dead certainty that the names of Patrick Patterson or Jordan Hill belongs next to the 4 Rockets originally listed.... Then NOBODY on the current roster should be off of the table in assembling the next Rockets' powerhouse. However long it takes,
