A lot of folks on this board and others cannot tell the difference between "their" and "they're", "you're" and "your".

It bothers the crap out of me. The offense below is worse.

Click on the link below. It is from a news station. Headline reads,

"Buddhists say their fed up with Amsterdam"

    http://www.cbs6albany.com/news/amsterdam-1282138-says-crime.html

Simply inexcusable for a professional writer.

I'm with you. It's worse when you see it in professional writing where, supposedly, they should have an editor that catches these blatant errors.

It's also troubling to see poor grammar and word choice pretty much everywhere. What are they teaching in English class these days, anyway?

My biggest pet-peeve is mixing up "worse" and "worst." It's really unbelievable to me that so many people can't get a grasp on this. I read a lot of different chat forums daily and I cringe every time I see it.

Which brings me to another one: Alot is not a word!!! Cant you see the squiggly red line underneath the word indicating that it is not a word??? A lot is two words. You wouldn't say, "I have abunch of stuff." would you? No.

I don't normally chime in on it because people get offended so easily, but, since you started the thread...

Also, you get a free pass from me if English is not your first language. But if it is, you will instantly lose credibility with me and many other posters in my estimation.

There was a poll maybe a year ago that was overwhelmingly in favor of "posters losing credibility for poor grammar" as opposed to "Meh, I don't care."

edit: Ha! Just the types of responses I expected. Idiocrisy is coming true.

I couldn't agree more, I've made plenty of posts about people using words incorrectly, but it never seemed to do any good. At one point I even put an explanation in my signature, but like I said...it did no good. People are either too lazy, too dumb, or just don't care.
