Per Mark Berman. Pretty much official.

HOUSTON - As FOX 26 Sports reported Wednesday night there are strong indications Houston Texans owner Bob McNair will retain head coach Gary Kubiak.

NFL sources also indicate the Texans are expected to go after former Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips to become their new defensive coordinator.

If that holds up one possibility for the Texans secondary coach is University of Houston defensive coordinator Brian Stewart.

Stewart was the secondary coach in San Diego (2004-2006) when Phillips was the defensive coordinator of the Chargers and Stewart was the defensive coordinator (2007-2008) of the Cowboys during the first three two years Phillips was the head coach in Dallas.

Any decisions McNair reaches will not become public until after the season is over.

I don't get what is managements obsession with picking up unwanted personnel. It's like the freaking island of misfit toys.

Man F**K KUBIAK AND F**K MCNAIR.

I seriously hope a minor riot happens on Sunday, win or loss, just to show how much fans are angry about this news.

Goddamn it man why the hell McNair is so obsessed with Kubiak..? I just don't get it, the guy is not a head coach he just doesn't have it in him, have Philips or not will not change anything expect another 8-8 season.

And part of this is on the Chronic, a rag that treats the local teams like they were members of the family.

Is Bob McNair going to hire Wade Philips just so that Cowboys fans tune into to watch Wade fudge things up in order to increase tv ratings?

Eh, at the end of the day all I care about is winning. After we squandered that 4-2 start initially I was thinking it was time for Kubiak to go. And while I still think the team should make a change for change's sake, the reality is you could do a whole lot worse thank Kubiak and there is no certainty Cowher or Gruden really want to come here or would have better success. And the team, for whatever reason, is still behind the man; they still play hard for him.

And despite the fact that they can't seem to put together 4 complete quarters, are too predictable at times, are vulnerable to stupid calls and aren't always mentally prepared, they still had a chance at a winning record and the playoffs if not for several games lost solely by this historically bad defense.

Bring in an experienced Defensive Coordinator, maybe someone who can help to weed out better personnel on that side of the ball...keep doing what you're doing on offense. That's not the worst thing in the world. It's a very safe play...but it's better than firing Kubiak and being used as leverage by The Chin and Chucky, to only end up with a retread.

Very true. It was great to hear someone call 610 tonight and completely call out McClain while he was on. All points were valid. I'm sick of everyone in the media and Texans orginization making everything seem like things are ok. They're not ok. We are sick of losing, sick of hearing things are headed in the right direction. Do they really think we are stupid? Apparently.

What exactly did the caller say? I love that somebody called him out. It was about time.

If Bob McNair's sole criteria for coaching hires is that the candidate must be a famous Houstonian (or child of one), I'd like to make the following suggestions:

HC: Kubiak (of course)
OC: Dennis Quaid - played a QB in a movie once, thus must have extensive knowledge about offensive schemes
DC: Beyonce - let's make it 3 for 3 in hiring DCs under Kubiak that have zero play-calling experience
(extra) GM: Mattress Mac - will totally "save you money!" on free agents

Seriously, the above makes just as much sense as the current proposed plan. Time to hit the bottle.

Can you elaborate on this? What did the caller say and what was McClain's response?

Interesting if Brian Stewart would leave the Coogs and tie himself to the Titanic aka Kubiak regime after one year. He must want back in the NFL to leave a college DC job for a NFL position job.
