    7. Shane Battier, F, Houston Rockets
    • Age: 32
    • On-court accomplishments: 2-time Naismith award winner (high school and college), 2001 No. 6 overall NBA draft pick, 2-time All-NBA defensive second team
    • Alma mater, major, GPA: Duke, religion, 3.5
    • Languages: “English and German.”
    • Off-court/intellectual interests: “Finance, sabermetrics, golf.”
    • If I weren’t a professional athlete, I’d ... “Be working with youth in some capacity. Similar to the mission of my foundation, I would want to encourage and inspire a new generation of potential leaders through higher education and effective leadership skills.”
    • Nerdiest thing about me: “I have a subscription to Laptop magazine.”
    • Smartest teammate I’ve had: “Brent Barry.”

    Wow @ #1.

Spurning Med School for Baseball? Takes a lot of guts to do that.

Didn't the scales change recently? When i took it 1600 was the max, I think it is 2400 now. Some of the people on that list are pretty young and Peyton is not, a 1030 now is like a ~1500-1600 on the new scale.

I actually disagree with the placement of the top 2. No disrespect to Breslow, he's clearly a smart guy but turning down med school for baseball is not nearly as big deal as winning the Rhodes Scholarship like Myron Rolle did. There's thousands of medical school spots but only 32 US Rhodes Scholarships.

It's quite surprising the list didn't mention Rolle's scholarship. It was a big deal when he took a year off to go to England rather than declare for the NFL draft. He supposedly dropped several rounds (ultimately to the 6th round) because he went a year without playing competitive football. He got a reputation that he didn't put football first because of that and his stock fell.

Um 1030 on the old scale was like borderline r****ded. A decent score was a 1300 I had no idea there was a new scale, but a 1030 is incredibly low.

They need his spot for some white guys.

Apparently there are no smart female athletes. [Edited for typo]

    1500-1600 is average.
