Hints made by who, where, and when? The Comets have 3 true point guards in camp with Washington, Rizzoti, and Robinson. If I had to bet I'd say that unless all 3 points play horribly, Coquese will start and Janeth will stay in her sixth man role. But then again, what hints by who?

local paper reporter in yesterday's paper. nothing concrete...just as i said, a hint or two from reporter of over heard comments made by Coach Chanceler that no one in camp has taken the leadership role he would like to see. i think the qoute was more like " just the same play i seen all last week " doesn't sound too encouraging if you ask me. i would have thought Rizzotti would have taken the lead by now with Henning gone. Washington doesn't know the system yet. i'm not sold on Conquese as of now, i'd like to see more before i decide myself. maybe i'll see this wednesday at the first home exhibition game vs. maimi.

good.. i hope he does start Janeth. She isn't the greatest ball-handler but good enough. The reason I want her out there as a starter is for her defense. If not for her shutting down of Michelle Timms in 98, we wouldn't have won that Game 2 comeback. Plus she is another legit option on offense out there. It would weaken the bench but I think Amaya Valdemoro needs to be given a chance to be the 6h man. She has shown flashes of brilliance in the few minutes she has had in the last 2 years. I think she is ready.

outlaw, you hit right on the head if you ask me...the thing that worries me about moving janeth to the starting position is the weakening of the bench both offencivly and defencively. Valdemoro without a doubt would be the sixth woman of the bench, but the starters will ineviatably need a breather at some point and with all the new faces on the second team ( who are still learning the system ) who gonna lead them. janeth always brought consistancey off the bench that i fear will be missing when she's not there. mainly her defence that kept teams from going off on us when coop/swoopes aren't in the line up. don't get me wrong, she deserves to be in the starting line up, i'm just concerned with team chemstry and continuity ( you know, if it ain't broke...don't fix it ). those that didn't see the first season when she was in the starting line up when swoopes was on materity leave don't know what kind of player she really is and will certainly find out this season if she gets the starting point guard position.

TOAST!...to all on, for the cometride!!!

wednesday...COMETS vs. sol

Yes. The bench is going to need a lot of help and leadership, but after watching the game yesterday I think Arcain has to start. First of all she is deserving of the opportunity after her three years on the bench. Second, the Comets can't ask Coop to be the point guard as well as the dominant scorer. And that's what would happen because Washington couldn't even drop the ball into the post without having trouble. She reminded me of Matt Maloney and how he used to jump and then drop the ball into Hakeem. It just didn't look right and brougt Thompson and Swoopes out of the deep post to get the ball.

I say we let her start and put teams away early. Mentally, we can break any team with that starting five. And then Monica and Valdemoro can lead the bench troops into battle.

phislammajamma you comfirmed my fear that conquese washington is not the answer at the point. i'm all for giving the girl a chance, but, we have to have stability at the point. i know a lot of people didn't care for Sonja Henning all that much, because she did not present that much of an offencive threat like Kim Perrot, but you could count on her not to turn the ball over...she was in control and defencively minded where Kim was more offencively minded ( note: Kim was also defencively minded as well with all the steals, but part of what made her so exciting to watch was that you never knew when she was going to have a 20 plus point night ). janeth did struggle a little with controlling the ball in 98 the first year she came off the bench and started to get time at the point. however in 99 she did a much better job and at times showed promise, but she's still not a true point guard ( that's not to say i'm not comfortable with her at the point...i am ) but if Washington and Rizziotti are not going to cut it...why are they here, is it too late to trade...do we have to waive them at this point? i have real concerns over the coarse of entire season at the point. and i really don't have any solutions. Coach Chancelor isn't going to play janeth 40 minutes and somebody's gotta come in and not let the steam out of the engine. i'm comfortable with Valdemoro as sixth man backing up Coop and Swoopes, but running the team, i'm not so sure she ready for that much responsibility. i could be wrong, and i'll eat my crow like a man if i must, but i feel we need an experienced, dependable back up at the one. ( that said, i still wanna keep Renee Robinson "the rookie" )

I'm sorry but did you call Perrot an offensive threat? Um, she scored over 20 points exactly once I believe and she was a 38% shooter. A lot of her points came in transition and off of steals, they never exactly cleared the floor for Perrot if ya know what I mean. Henning was a steady player who took the shots when the defense made her.

Yeah, Perrot was a very solid offensive player, but not really a threat. She was one of the top defensive players in the league, and definetely among the top point guards.

Hmmmmm, Helen Darling would have been nice.
