Russell Crowe "will knock you out", says rapper
Russell Crowe is set to star in the kung fu movie The Man With the Iron Fist.
If that casting news sounds strange, the story gets stranger.
The film will be directed by Wu-Tang Clan rapper RZA, who will also co-star with Crowe.
Quentin Tarantino has been developing the film for years, and will assist RZA in bringing the project to the screen.
At the MTV Video Music Awards, RZA revealed what audiences can expect from Crowe.
"I won't spoil it for you, but Russell's gonna be the baddest man alive," he said.
"That man is in fighting shape. That man will knock you out."
Russell Crowe is going to be kung fu fighting...with a hip-hop star!
Read on for my exclusive scoop about the Oscar-winner's new movie gig...
Hip-hop artist and actor RZA tells me that Crowe has signed on to costar with him in The Man With the Iron Fist, a kung fu flick the Wu-Tang Clan founder is also directing.
RZA will play a weapons-making village blacksmith in feudal China—and as for Crowe, RZA doesn't want to say too much.
"I won't spoil it for you, but Russell's gonna be the baddest man alive," he told me yesterday at the VMAs. "That man is in fighting shape. That man will knock you out."
The Man With the Iron Fist (no relation to the Marvel Comic superhero Iron Fist) starts shooting in Shanghai in December. "It's nerve-wracking," RZA said of directing Crowe. "He's a master of the craft. I'm quite sure that I may learn something from him."
Crowe and RZA worked together three years ago in Ridley Scott's American Gangster. They even recorded a song together, but Gangster producers decided not to include it on the movie's soundtrack. Both are also in the upcoming The Next Three Days from director Paul Haggis.
The Wu-Tang Clan founder began developing the project about five years ago with the help of Quentin Tarantino and director/actor Eli Roth, the latter now a cowriter and coproducer of the flick.
Universal reportedly green lighted Iron Fist in May with a $20 million budget.
^ yeah Rza is like Tarantino when it comes to like the kung fu movies.. You should check out his commentary track on 'The 36th Chamber Of Shaolin'.. Very good stuff, and informative...
Intrigued, Crowe makes for a good villian and if done right could be HUGE.

“We were all told by the league he was a tradeable player, and now they’re saying that Dell doesn’t have the authority to make the trade?” said an NBA executive who had periodic talks with New Orleans throughout the process. “Now they’re saying that Dell is an idiot, that he can’t do his job. [Expletive] this whole thing. David’s drunk on power, and he doesn’t give a [expletive] about the players, and he doesn’t give a [expletive] about the hundreds of hours the teams put in to make that deal"
From those youtube clips, the action looked far too choppy and too close up. I hope he doesn't do that on the movie.

You drop that load, too, when you've got an excuse. All you've gotta do is learn to feel sorry for yourself. It's one of the best indoor sports - feeling sorry for yourself. A sport enjoyed by all.. especially the born loser."

I guess since this thread started in 2010 this movie is languishing in production limbo. Just from reading the description of it I don't much of a good feeling about it. I mean a black guy as the hero versus a white guy as the villain in feudal China? This thing just sounds like it is going to be Forbidden Kingdom with more blood and rapping.
A lot of movies take 2 or so years to complete including post production. This was greenlighted in May of 2010 so it's nothing out of the ordinary really.
I could barely make out what's going on??? But from what I saw, it doesn't look too bad, Batista looks like the stand out so far... Is this coming out later this year???

Yeah generally I'd think a lower budget film that takes over 2 years first production to theater is either like a perfectionist indie project, or they don't have a good feeling about it.
There's just enough current or former A-listers in the soundtrack and acting. They'll make some money off the soundtrack. But its what it looks like - borrowing from Quentin Tarantino's lot to make your own film.
It'll probably not catch on too big mainstream, but be more an underground hit with the urban and hip hop crowd kinda like Ghost Dog.
Looks good but the the English language sound stupid and awkward in this piece.
I agree, I don't mind Rza speaking English and him coming from writing sick rhymes from Wu Tang Clan I'm interested to see how the dialogue will play out.. This could be one fun ride at the movies... Russell Crowe and Batista in one movie??? WOW!!!

Everytime the RZA got on the mike. . it was kind of painful . . like Dre
