i seriously dont care who we can acquire in a trade package that involves this pick. the only way i would trade it is if by the trade deadline we see that the knicks are doing pretty good and will most likely finish pretty good. i have a feeling if we hold on to this pick it is a potential top 5 pick and i would love a top 5 pick next summer. i dont see the knicks doing anything next year. amare was the worst possible acquistion the knicks could have gotten with a max contract. yall can say that he has played in d'antonis offense before and blah blah, but sorry that "d'antoni's offense" should be called "nash's offense". nash makes everyone better on his team, as everyone knows, because he breaks down a defense so good and makes a perfect pass. amare was great on phoenix, i think he will only be above average on the knicks. anyways, the knicks dont really have anyone on their roster that jel with amare. idk maybe they will prove me wrong, but i hope not. i think we can AT LEAST get a top 12 pick with this pick and thats at the least. i just think some people throw around these trade ideas and throw this pick in there not really thinking about its potential....... flame away!

Wall of text.

With the knicks actually improving this offseason, I would look to probably put it in a deadline trade.

the knicks were considered "bad" last season but they only got the 9th pick. i doubt they'll be any worse with amare, plus the addition of raymond felton sneaks them into the 8th spot in the east imho.

i dont see them being a bottom 5 team in the league. they upgraded two key positions this offseason.

I can't remember, but:

It's only our pick if the Knicks don't get #1, right? #2-#14, and it is ours?

I feel like this has been discussed before. You might get better insight from another thread about the picks.

I mean, it's a step up from Bosh, LeBron and McGrady, but it's surprising how the GARM gets a daily NY pick thread.

Rockets have the right to swap picks but the top 5 slots is protected by NY Knicks. The best we can do is Knicks having the 6th pick in the 2011 draft and we swap draft picks.

I just now re-read it and good Lord...it was bad haha. I'm sorry about that guys. I am supe sleepy and I was just typing away like a mad man. Anyways, I was thinking this years draft pick was only a top 1 protected? Guess I was thinking wrong. I still stand by my prediction: The Knicks will not be a playoff team next year. I'm calling it right now.

The 2011 pick swap is only protected if it's the #1 pick. The 2012 pick is the one that's Top 5 protected.

If I remember correctly, in the 2011 draft the #1 draft pick is the only protected, but in 2012 the first 5 picks are protected.

While it still amazes me that people don't understand the draft picks the Rockets got from the Knicks (and, even worse, that some people feel the need to STATE what the picks are incorrectly), I thought I'd briefly chime in on another perspective on the pick swap.

If another team values that pick swap highly enough (in a package of assets) to give the Rockets a star player, then they would be best served to trade that pick swap sooner rather than later.

The limited protection on the pick swap (only top-1 protected) is what makes it so SEEMINGLY valuable. THAT is what took negotiations down to the wire between Morey and Walsh in February. That limited protection, however, may not be as great as it seems. The fact is, the likelihood of the pick being in the #2-5 range is not that great. More likely, it will be in the #8-12 range. BIG difference in value, there.

But it is that HOPE of getting the #2 pick--which seems to have some many of us excited--that creates the trade value for that pick swap. That same hope may be able to actually land the Rockets a valuable piece who will likely be far better than the player eventually drafted with that pick.

Bottom line: If the Rockets keep the pick swap, I'll be right there with everyone else watching the Eastern Conference standings all season. But I certainly don't think that pick swap should be untouchable. In fact, I think it should be actively shopped RIGHT NOW in order to extract maximum value before the Knicks start playing games. It's easy to project New York sucking. But once they win a game or two, the value of the pick swap goes down. Morey realizes this and is likely preparing several scenarios to take advantage of the current perceived value of the pick swap.

Remember....this is only the RIGHT TO SWAP picks in 2011. We don't have the Knick's pick outright. If they suck, as they probably will, and we don't, and we probably won't, they will obviously get a higher draft pick.

We then have the right to take that pick(up to the #2 overall) and give them ours.

I have seen many posts that give the impression of 2 NY picks and ours, as if we have a total of three. This is not the case!
