NEW YORK – For months, rival executives’ calls to New Orleans general manager Jeff Bower on Chris Paul(notes) were met with an unmistakable response: Don’t bother. No engagement, no discussions. The Hornets’ franchise star was untouchable.

This has changed now. Bower still hasn’t started to shop him, but those close to Paul believed a threshold was crossed with the mixed message from the owner’s public statement on Wednesday. Nowhere did they hear out of George Shinn’s legendarily duplicitous mouth what the Hornets had always maintained about Chris Paul: We won’t trade him...

Paul and Okafor for Jeffries, Battier, AB and Hill? Maybe NY Knicks 2012 pick.

    Paul/Lowry
    Martin/Taylor
    Ariza/Buddinger
    Scola/Patterson
    Yao/Okafor

Hornets get younger and cheaper while dumping Okafor's contract.

We get CP3 and a legitimate though overpaid backup C.

Yeah because the Hornets would really give up Chris Paul for Brooks, Andersen and a couple of expirings. Some people need to get a clue. We're talking about a franchise point guard. One who I believe is still one of the top 3 in the league when healthy. He was injured a bit this year so the Rondo's and D. Williams and D. Rose's took his shine.

Didn't Paul finish #2 in the 2008 MVP voting? And I believe he's led the league in steals on more than one occasion.

I like the idea of Brooks/Hill/Jeffries/Battier/2012 pick.

Good thing you're not Morey, because Okafor isn't even on our team.

anderson will not be part of the trade, if indded it happens...Anderson, wound make it in the D-League. I would rather play four then let him set foot off the bench. He shoots ok, but he doesnt play defense, if i didnt know any better, i swear he was a below average NBA IQ.

This seems very simliar to the KG in Minn situation, elite player in a small market gets traded to a team for a bunch of assets.

we wont get Paul, sorry. and i not sad we wouldnt we dont need a PG we need a C so this makes no sense why some ppl are wantin to trade away PF's and backup C's when we're rail thin already up there..

if we were to trade for CP let it be a combination of AB/Bud/JT/Shane/2012 pick, but no C's and stack it with overpaid Okafor, Id be ok wit us takin on his contract imo this would be the ideal way to go

    From his chat

    Chad Ford, ESPN Insider:
The Blazers got close to a deal with the Hornets last week that would've sent Andre Miller, Joel Przybilla, Nicolas Batum, Jerryd Bayless and the 22nd pick to NO for Paul before Jeff Bower pulled out of the deal saying that their owner wasn't ready to trade Paul. The trade they made on draft night got them out of the luxury tax, so that's no longer the issue. The issue is whether Paul is no unhappy enough to force a trade. Personally I think the Hornets can do better than that for Paul, but it's a viable deal. As for Melo, I do think they'll explore moving him ... but not for the Eddy Curry Danilo Gallinari package people are writing about.

We should be able to beat that package without a problem.

I'm not an Okafor fan but he'd be a good Backup for Yao.

Yeah but I'm not too sure what we would have to give up to get CP3...

But if the blazers were able to land him, the West is going to get harder...
