I've never seen Hakeem with his wife... I know they primarily live in Jordan but she does a very good job of keeping out of the public eye.
In Real Estate school I had to watch a video about different cultures and it said muslims do not like to talk about their wives. I do not know if that true though. In that same video it said never talk to mexican women as if she is equal to their husbands. There are plenty of dominant mexican women out there, that video was old and in vhs though.
I remember him talking about going overseas to look for a nice woman after he converted to Islam in the early 90's... just wasn't sure how strict of a Muslim he expected his wife to be. He has over $100 million of real estate in Houston so it's surprising to me that she's never spotted with him (or visits with him).
Abi Olajuwon was born in 1988, before Hakeem converted to Islam. According to her alma mater's site, she is the daughter of Hakeem Olajuwon and Lita Richardson. http://www.soonersports.com/sports/w-baskbl/mtt/olajuwon_abi00.html
Hakeem the Playboy! He was a changed man after he converted though, you could tell he found an inner peace that was lacking in the early parts of his career. Part of his aggressive and at times selfish personality in the 80s had to do with being the most instinctive big man to ever touch a basketball coming out of college.
Hakeem converted? He was born Muslim, he just wasn't religious till a bit after his daughter was born.
Hakeem never converted to Islam. He is a born Muslim. Akeem is a variant of the word Hakeem. He used to go to the mosque as a young man in Nigeria before he came to the US. He didn't follow Islamic practices, until he changed the spelling of his name to Hakeem in the 90's.
I should have said went from non-practicing to practicing. http://soundvision.com/info/peace/hakeem.asp
I similarly find it odd with celebs and sports figures, how you never hear about their siblings either. Some of these players have 5+ brothers & sisters and for 10+ years you never see or hear a peep about them. But I guess when a player's brother is married, a self respecting wife isn't going to let them hang out with an NBA player within that lifestyle
