Instead of focusing on outlawing abortion or teaching abstinence, this ad actually seems to promote the message of personal responsibility. What a novel concept. In some ways, I almost take this as an endorsement of contraception and sexual education more than anything else. Well done, Bristol. Of course, the media seems to completely miss the point and interpret this ad as saying "I'm rich, so it's ok that I got knocked up, but you're poor, so don't." I think Bristol is basically trying to say that "just because I decided to keep the baby, and the outward appearance is of a happy, functioning family, doesn't mean that I'm proud of what I did or that the decision wasn't a difficult one."
The slogan is intentionally left ambiguous. "Pause before you Play" can mean "take a second to put a condom on first" or it can mean "wait until marriage". However someone interprets the message, it's better than the alternative of having underage unprotected sex.
