I'm going to try this place called Kublai Khan tonight. Has anyone had it before? I've heard Genghis Grill is good too. Never had Mongolian BBQ but excited about trying it.
Hving been to Mongolia, I can tell you that unless it involves boiling mutton in a pail by using a hot rock that you got from a fire - it ain't really mongolian barbecue. What we call Mongolian Barbecue they call Korean food cause that's what it basicaly is ("Mongolian Beef" = Bulgogi)
Ya usually the authentic food from a country is nowhere near that here. They just make what sells here. For example people that are used to american pizza when they go overseas they don't even like the original kind because they like it greasy. It's bizarre.
One of my friends said mongolian hot pot on fountain view and westheimer sucked. There is a place on 1960 near 45 that is pretty good. I think it is called Mongolian Grill.
When it's done right, it's awesome. One thing I've learned is not to skimp on the sauces... ladle that stuff on there. Also, mash that frozen meat down so you can fit more in your bowl.

Most Mongolian grills all have the same stuff and it is all good cause you basically can eat whatever.
i went to ghengis on I10 and bunker hill. I wasn't impressed with the concept, too much work. wtf am I supposed to know about how it comes out, I cook, but I'm not a chef. spring branch also has some "authentic", I think, i see a lot of koreans eating ther, korean restaurants. you can bbq yourself or just pick out the ingrediants
Ghengis Grill is awesome. Obviously it's your fault if it isn't good. Luckily I know the sauce that I like and it is fantastic. So pumped that they finally opened one here
A word of caution.. I went to a Korean BBQ restaurant on Long Point a few years ago and they were serving cockroaches to a lot of the patrons I will gladly pass up authenticity if it means seeing that
