Shouldn't the same level of punishment be bestowed upon other offenders?

Kobe Bryant. Crime: alleged rape. Punishment by league: nothing.

Chris Webber: Crime: assault, possession of MJ, resisting arrest. Punishment by league: nothing.

JR Smith: Crime: Vehicular manslaughter. Punishment by league: 7 games.

Ok, so these guys have nothing to do with guns and the cases are dated. So lets look at recent cases that do involve a firearm:

Sebastian Telfair: Crime: criminal possession of a weapon. Punishment by league: 3 games AFTER a guilty plea.

Delonte West: Crime: Carrying 3 loaded guns. Punishment by league: nothing yet.

Which of these other guys had guns in the locker room pointed at someone else?

They didnt bring guns to their work place.
They had them outside of the NBA in their personal life.

Here's Stern's statement:
Quote:
"Although it is clear that the actions of Mr. Arenas will ultimately result in a substantial suspension, and perhaps worse, his ongoing conduct has led me to conclude that he is not currently fit to take the court in an NBA game. Accordingly, I am suspending Mr. Arenas indefinitely, without pay, effective immediately pending the completion of the investigation by the NBA."
So all these other guys were fit to take the court but Arena's isn't.

Who else's conduct took place entirely within their workplace?

Arenas had his weapons at his place of work. He then made light of the situation during a game.

I don't remember Kobe raping a girl at staples and then making mocking gestures/comments during the games.

If Stern suspended Arenas because of the guns fine.

But from the reports he fined him because of last nights incident in Philly in which he felt Arenas taunted him.

People that say well did they bring a gun and point it at someone, well then why isn't Javaris Crittenton suspended?

Didn't Chris Mills pull a gun out on Bonzi Wells a long time ago?

How long was he suspended? Or was he even suspended at all?

ditto. Javaris Crittenton apparently brought in a LOADED gun, too.

From the latest accounts Arenas never pointed his gun at anyone. Criteron was the one who pointed a gun at Arenas.

I think most NBA guys carry a firearm. I'm willing to bet that there were guns in most NBA locker rooms before this incident. It's just that no one snitched until the Whiz decided it was a good way to get out of the worst contract in the league.

I know that I'm talking about the league suspension though. The Mills thing was brought public. I was real young so I don't know if it was ever proof that he did in fact go running after Wells and the Blazers team bus with a gun.

3 games I believe, but the presence of the gun was never confirmed.

You're comparing apples and oranges. Arenas did something completely different than those other guys, and then he acted like an idiot continually afterward, not showing any contrition. Sometimes the commissioner needs to send a message so others know what isn't acceptable. We have a right to bear arms in our society, but when someone abuses it like this, and breaks league rules, there are consequences.

Main reason why Arenas is suspended is because he made a mockery out of the guns.

Another case involving a gun you forgot to mention: Carl Landry shot in the leg. Punishment by league: Paid vacation.
