In watching him play he doesn't seem to have the same instinct, and is less of an offensive player than he ever was. He's only had one really brilliant game this season and it was in the pre-season. Is he still the same lock down defender that he once was? Or did Joe Johnson just have an off night tonight?
I love Shane's character and what he brings to the table as a leader but I think that his role on the floor should be greatly diminished.

He's simpl not fit fo this type of team. He was fine when he could camp the corner and hut open threes, but now he's expected to create his own shot, something he hasn't been able to do for a long time.
I say we should try to actively trade him, since we really don't need him anymore.

I think he has lost a bit defensively. I think that between Scola, Hayes and Yao (next year hopefully) we have adequate leadership on this team to where we could trade Battier. Battier is doing a lot of dribbling in our offense (moreso than he ever has) but he is never even a threat to create.

Corrected. It's not his fault if he can't do that, since he doesn't have that ability.
Trade him only if we can get a good, preferably young player for him.

Morey should have traded him this summer.

I think they keep him around this year to teach CBud and Ariza what he knows and trade him in the summer.

Your point is a valid one,but if we can get a good player around the trade deadline,it should be done IMO.

I'm guessing the pace we're playing at this year is also taking a toll on Battier's stamina on the defensive end. He just doesn't look like the same guy this season, whether on offense or defense. I can understand (and even accept) some of his offensive slumps, but his defensive deficiencies are a bit harder to put aside, since that's his MO.

I think if Morey gets a trade offer he can't resist, he'll take it.

Albatross? That's a bit harsh. Under performing? Maybe. Redundant with Ariza? Probably.

I love the guy's leadshipe, intensity and all out hustle but he just doesn't look right out there...Shane needs a big man to find him for open for 3's and without it he gets exposed and defensivly just not the same anymore. Shane is incredibly valuable to certain teams as the "missing" piece and I say use him to get a big man if they do decide to move him.

I am good with that too.....but let's not forget Shane is the team captain along with Hayes....
The deal would have to involve a very hard working young player, not someone skilled but lazy or with a low BBall IQ....
Fernandez would work, but not Outlaw......got to get players that fit with this group.

He needs fewer minutes, more for Chase. Maybe fewer minutes will give him some legs for those threes. He's pretty useless offensively with this current team.

Would we still be wanting to trade Battier if Yao and Tmac were back on this team? Battier's headiness has saved us plenty of times, but his lack of offensive punch also has me wondering...

you know i don't like his extremely low rebounding numbers either, but i did remember he's the guy who's suppose to get back on every rebound, so that is going to keep his numbers down, at least compared to the rest of the team.
