That's an average draft pick of 33.11, without Hayes. If you assign Hayes like a 70 that goes up to almost 37. This team is inspirational.
damn I didnt know he was a gm chess player too. more respect even now! it would be an honor to get my arse whooped by him, lol.
we posted about this in the thread where it was said Skeets either follows me or I was retweeted by someone he follows.
I would like to thank the academy, Hayesfan for beliving in my talent, Yoyo for discovering a young poster who is willing to hustle like Chuck Hayes and Durvasa for letting the world know Rockets934life is more then just a name but an attitude. Oh yea and DMorey for being so dam brilliant!
and also....why is Shane Battier the only lottery pick on there??? Because Morey gave away our only lottery pick of the last 7 years away... sometimes you have to look past the obvious stats.....(isn't that what Moneyball is all about? Looking past the boxscore? )
Huh? Battier is a lottery pick himself, and we traded a lotter pick to get him. Even if we hadn't traded Battier we'd still have only one lottery pick (Thabo) on the squad. Well two if by some miracle Slowmile Swift is still on the squad.
I want to see what Morey does with a top 5 lottery pick. Getting good players from late 1st and 2nds are ok, but I want a star player. How about a star PF from the top 5?
Rudy Gay. I think you noticed the lottery pick I was referring to was Rudy Gay. Some people say draft picks and star player quality is not a big part of the Moneyball strategy. However if we were to then turn around and say, "wow, look at the lack of star power on this roster!" you've also got to realise that we GAVE AWAY that star player for a role player. Hence I don't think the argument that Morey achieved all this without "star power resources" is a valid point...
Gay is not a star, he is a good player with talent but IMO not a star. Morey has never made that "Blockbuster" deal so he has had to revamp this team with JVG cast offs, low draft picks and a lottery pick in a very weak year. Now this coming offseason we will see if moneyball actually works with superstars as Morey will finally be able to aquire that type of player either via trade or FA.
Your whole argument is based on the assumption that Gay is a "star" player, which is highly debatable.
We didn't just "give away" the "star" that isn't Rudy Gay for just Shane Battier. We also freed ourselves from the potential salary cap restricting shackles that was Stromile Swift. And if you don't think that's a big deal, look at how we're all complaining about Brian Cook being a dead weight on the team even though he's expiring this year. Stromile had 4 years left at full MLE. The board would explode if Brian Cook had 4 extra years on it. So the transaction was not Star for Role player. Its Flashy prospect + Brian Cook contract on steroids for Super Role player.
