There seems to be disagreement in the GARM on how to correctly spend David Anders*n's name. Two possibilities: Anderson Usage: English, Icelandic, Scottish, Swedish Meaning: son of Andrews Rankings for ANDERSON: United States ranked 11 out of 88,799 England and Wales ranked 66 out of 500 Scotland ranked 8 out of 100# of other NBA players historically named Anderson: 20 Andersen Usage: Danish, Norwegian Means "son of Anders". Rankings for ANDERSEN: United States ranked 1,023 out of 88,799 Norway ranked 5 out of 100# of other NBA players historically named Andersen: 1 The numbers seem to heavily suggest that his name is spelled Anderson. On the other hand, I couldn't find numbers for Australians which may be relevant. Does anyone happen to know DA's geneology? This might shed some light on this topic. I'll also note that according to the US census, there are also people on record with the last name Andersan, Andersin, and Andersun. Very rare, but we shouldn't completely dismiss that possibility either.
Can't trust everything you read on Wikipedia, though. And, again, the numbers seem to suggest a different story.
http://davidandersen.com.au/ his official page I dunno what caused the mistrust but wikipedia is 95 percent right. Good for me. Again. WHAT NUMBERS? I just travelled to Denmark. They got a different spelling and Yes, there are more Swedish people out there.
The back of his jersey reads "Andersen" and I doubt that he would wear it if the spelling was incorrect. *at least I hope he wouldn't.* So I'd go with Andersen.
You make an intriguing case. That he has a dual Australian/Danish citizenship is compelling supporting evidence that his name is, in fact, spelled "Andersen".
There is, of course, one other issue I neglected to make note of in the OP. Is his first name spelled "David" or "Chris"? I've seen it spelled both ways, both in the GARM, and also in the Chronicle. In one of Feigen's tweets, he even spelled it "Chris". This is all very confusing.
Somebody often confuses his name with Chris 'the Birdman' Andersen. I thought that was Anderson as well for a long time but it is spelled Andersen. One intriguing info about the Birdman I didn't know. He started his career in the Chinese bball league.
Of course there is David Anderson, Wide Receiver of the Houston Texans http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Anderson_(American_football)
It's not real crappy if you take a look around you in the GARM. 50 percent of the people writes Anderson.
It's still not conclusive. I submit this as counter-evidence. Now, admittedly, I just turned the E into an O with MS Paint. But imagine what someone with actual Photoshop skills might have done. I will say however, considering the evidence brought forth, I am now 90% sure his name is spelled Andersen.
I would have liked to make a thread with simply the title: "HIS NAME IS SPELLED DAVID ANDERSEN." I figured I'd try to have a little more fun with it, and poke fun of myself in the process.
