Note that I don't know anything about Sessions.

If he is such a great PG... why didn't Portland go after him???? Or is Miller better?

He's not that great. Some people here just have him on a pedestal for some reason.

He is not as good as Andre Miller.

His potential imo ends at an Andre Miller esque ceiling...

I am guessing because they (particularly, Nate MacMillan) are looking for a veteran leader-type who can play at a high level-- someone who is not only going get you 15 points 7 assists, but also keep the team organized on the court (sort of what Battier does for the Rockets). Remember their first choice was Hedo Turkoglu? Miller, like Turkoglu, is an experienced vet who has a proven record of success in the NBA. Sessions, on the other hand, is just as young as the rest of that group.

He has better PG skills than Miller at least as far as passing the ball.

He is a very good young PG...the restricted part is screwing him in a contract year.

If anyone had any cap room they would give him a one year massive tender with a player option in year 2...to get him away from Milwaukee.....

Circumstance is killing him as a RFA.

Since this is a fresh thread, will someone who loves Ramon Sessions please tell me why so many people here are slobbering over him?

He is very good at setting up his teamates, makes great decisions with the ball and gets it in places they are comfortable and can easily score.

Plays decent D, has a shot that is improving, and can lead a team.

He has the potential to be an elite PG, he is already in the top half of all NBA point guards and is only going to get better.

More than anything PGs need good players around them, he did all of this on a below average team you put him on a good or great team and he would explode, IMO.

Those are some big words...

Andre Miller averaged 11 assists a game through an entire season...

Most people are enamored with his passing skills. Which are quite substantial. He had some games with ridiculously high assist totals. Numbers which you generally don't see except with elite PGs.

Also, people are high on him because he's at least a possibility of becoming a Rocket. It's not like anyone thinks he's elite. But the likes of CP3 or Deron Williams will never become a Rocket, so there's no point in slobbering over them.

I've hardly seen him play, since he's in Milwauke and they're never on television.

But, he's only 22, he's had an above average PER in his first two seasons, he's seemingly exhibited very good passing instincts with a high assist-rate over significant stretches of games, and his assist to turnover ratio is pretty decent. For a young player, he scored at a pretty decent clip last year. He's not a good outside shooter, but IMO that's something young players can develop. So, there is scope for significant improvement in his offensive game.

I don't know where he's at defensively. But the package looks attractive, just from a numbers-standpoint. And the point guard position is so important; if you have a real difference maker at that spot it's huge for your offense.

What don't you like about him?

I don't know anything about Sessions, he played for a Milwaukee team that I've watched maybe 1 time while he was playing. I think Portland doesn't like him. For the price that he's going to sign for, there's no reason why Portland couldn't have signed him along with Miller. Portland still has the MLE and money isn't a huge concern to them. They seem to consider Steve Blake an equal or better player than Sessions.

Re: Portland

it seems like their GM was more concerned with signing a big name than the player that best fit their needs. In ClutchFans terms, he wanted to make a splash.

Man how many Point Guards do you want Portland to have? They already had a stable efficient Point Guard rotation last year and that took them to home court advantage in the playoffs. Now Andre Miller was a great signing, its more than a bargain for the price he signed for. They already struggled to give Jerryd Bayless minutes and now they don't want their lottery pick sitting on the bench doing nothing and ruining his value so they shipped out Sergio Rodriguez. Do you know why Sergio Rodriguez was even traded? He complained about playing time...ever since he was drafted. So you want them to sign a starting PG on a playoff team(Miller on PHI) and you want them to sign the best PG on another team (Sessions on MIL)? Is Steve Blake, Jerryd Bayless, Andre Miller, and Ramon Sessions each gonna get 12 minutes per game? Any of those 4 guys could start on a playoff team and contribute in a big way.

Portland signed Miller because, one, Portland was already the 2nd youngest team in the entire league. So they were looking for veteran leadership and playoff experience after their playoff flop. Were they ever going to sign Sessions to start on PG so they get even younger? I'd think not.

Now its a great opportunity for Morey to sign the biggest up-and-coming PG right now on any team.

Landry + Future 2nd + Cash for Sessions. You won't regret it Morey.

For one thing, he did something no Rocket did for as long as I could remember------a triple double against the Lakers...

Blazers had cap space this season so they don't qualify for the MLE.

Dada, Durvasa,

Sounds like we are all on board the Sessions wagon. It is obvious to me from seeing him play that he is a very good playmaker. I'm not worried about his shooting. He has good form. He just never shoots. He either finishes or dishes and most of his jumpers from the field are desperation attempts at the end of the shot clock. I am predicting he will be a top 7 point guard in 2009-2010 if given a starting job and 30 minutes a night. For everyone that likes Lowry, Sessions is better. He has much better vision, much more creative passing abiity, he draws fouls at a rate even better than Lowry does, he is so much more creative than even Lowry. Everyone that loves Lowry should love Sessions. I don't understand why A3Po can't see this. He watches enough bball that he should be able to tell this kid has game and is going to be a premier PG in this league. Signing him to a $25 million/4 year contract is going to give some team very good value at the PG spot for the next 4 years. Yes, I would trade Landry, trash, cash, and a 2nd rounder for him in a heartbeat. And I would have to seriously consider trading Lowry and Landry for him if Milwaukee requested it. His game reminds me so much of a young Steve Nash. I can see him developing his midrange jumper to a level close to Nash. Once again, he is creative, creative, creative.

I'm on the Sessions bandwagon, though I have to admit I don't know if I've ever seen him play. His numbers are very promising, he's young, and he could be had for a cheap trade. What's not to like?

He's a top 10 PG with regards to assists and Ast/TO. His Ast/TO is better than Nash, Miller, Parker, Billups. Shot 44.5% from 2. His 3 pt% is awful (17%) last year, though he shot 42% from 3 last year in fewer games. As starting PG last year in 33 min/game averaged 15pt/4reb/7.5asts with 5.4 FTA/game.

For whatever reason, his coach has yo-yoed his minutes. When he gets good minutes his numbers look really good. Not sure why his minutes are so up and down.

As people have said, Portland probably wanted a veteran, as they feel that they are closer to a push to win the title. We're not there b/c of our many injuries so a young PG with talent is fine by me.

This game certainly didn't hurt the perception of Sessions in Houston.
