And the places to get them?

I've always liked European brands because they are slimmer around the waist. Italian brands like Asole Bottoni really caress a V-shape upper body and are worth the money. I haven't looked around much in Houston other than Zegna and Express... but I wasn't too impressed with either considering the prices. Here's a Bottoni, I think the cut on the sides defines the great fit:

Also, does anyone recommend a tailor? What would the prices be if you start from scratch?

I'm also interested in finding formal bermuda shorts, something like this:

    Thanks.

If you can afford it, it's really nice to have at least one custom fit shirt. Luckily Houston plays home to one of the most renowned custom shirt companies:

Go to M. Penner in Uptown Park. Named top 5 men's stores in the country by Esquire some time back. Best tailor shop in the Southwest.

I am not from Houston area but....

I would suggest you look at these 4 stores/brand names around your area. I am sure you can find them in Houston.

    1) United colors of Benetton
    2) Pink by Thomas Pink
    3) Theory
    4) Emporio Armani

The fitted shirts from Pink are sleek. Benetton sizes usually run small and are slim around the waist. Theory and Armani are shirts are usually fitted.

I have always gotten my dress shirts from Peter Raney Custom Tailors. They are well made, fit great, and Raj is a great guy.

    http://www.peterraney.com/

If you go for just their basic shirt, you can get 6 for $300.00. Custom made to your measurements.

I need to get some more. I haven't gotten new ones in 2 years.

BTW, Ralph Lauren Black Label shirts are Italian made and if you catch them during the bi-annual Private sales, you can usually get huge discounts on them. The Galleria store also does in store alterations. RL Black Label have some of the fittest, slim cuts suits available; I'm sure the shirts will be the same.

Formal Bermuda shorts...I don't know much about them but I'm certain Ralph Lauren has them and I wouldn't be surprised if Brooks Brother's and J. Crew carries them.

I highly doubt you will find a "nice" suit for $99.00.

Ya exactly. They fit "modern" but I doubt they would survive a trip to the cleaners.

Great suggestions everyone. My price range is around $50-$150 because I'm looking to buy in bulk. I haven't reached that stage where I can walk around in $250+ shirts without telling everyone around me not to touch my $300 shirt (like GOB from AD).

And again, I previously looked at a couple stores in the Galleria and didn't feel they fit well compared to shirts I have from Europe... I'm tall with a small waist and wide upper body. Going to try out the Ralph Lauren BL then check out some of the custom tailors mentioned in this thread.

Have you tried Hugo Boss? The standard dress-shirt is a slimmer cut than most high quality dress shirts (slimmer than Zegna or Armani). They also have a slim-fit line. Retail is $95-150.

Given your last post, it's unlikely you'll be able to afford a true custom shirt, which is true of most people.

If I had the $$$ to get a custom-made shirt, I'd go with Charvet.
