Apparently, he was on today morning. Someone mentioned it in another thread. http://thegame.podbean.com/2009/09/02/jl-daryl-morey-9-2-09/ <div> <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,0,0" width="210" height="25" id="mp3playerdarksmallv3" align="middle"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="movie" value="http://www.podbean.com/podcast-audio-video-blog-player/mp3playerdarksmallv3.swf?audioPath=http://thegame.podbean.com/mf/play/ieahkf/JL-DarylMorey-9-2-09.mp3&autoStart=no" /> <param name="quality" value="high" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /> <embed src="http://www.podbean.com/podcast-audio-video-blog-player/mp3playerdarksmallv3.swf?audioPath=http://thegame.podbean.com/mf/play/ieahkf/JL-DarylMorey-9-2-09.mp3&autoStart=no" quality="high" width="210" height="25" name="mp3playerdarksmallv3" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" wmode="transparent" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" /></embed> </object> <br /><a style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; font-weight: normal; padding-left: 41px; color: #2DA274; text-decoration: none; border-bottom: none;" href="http://www.podbean.com">Powered by Podbean.com</a> </div>
Paraphrasing Morey's words ... Offense: We'll probably see more of an offense reminiscent of Sacramento, with bigs more often playing the high post. Offense has been our challenge the last few years. Need to get offense early in the clock, use youth and energy to get shots early where they are more efficient. Our defense will be solid, need to generate offense early in the clock to be able to compete against other teams. Yao Ming: - His recovery is on-track. - Doctors never ruled out him returning this season, but that's less likely than likely. - Even if doctors clear him to play, there's a decent chance we'll say its best for him to hold back this year and make sure he's 100% going into next season. - re commitment to China .. we'll never hold him back on his commitment. It's between Yao and China. Tracy McGrady: - "Amazing". He's already playing 5 on 5. It's early, and there's some rust. Doctors didn't expect him to be playing 5 on 5 until late October, November. So he's ahead of schedule. He's being cautioned to take it slow (don't want him to come back to early like Arenas). He probably won't be back beginning of the season. Likely will be back December/January instead of February/March. - McGrady is very anxious to prove others wrong. Disrespect: - No national games just added to the list for things to motivate us. - The ultimate insult was NBA.com picked us to win fewer games than New York. Ricky Rubio: - Disappointing as an NBA fan that he's not coming over this season. - Knew, mapping out the market, that it would be tough getting him out of the buyout. Pops: - With Dikembe not back, we needed another guy with 8 names - he's a high energy guy, and he'l compete for a spot in camp. He has an inside shot at making it, I think. We'll see.
January? Are you kidding me Morey? It is pretty sure he will be back earlier. He knows he is playing for money, carrer. I am not saying he is ready for the 1st game, but come on, January? I guess he was asked to be careful with it.
He mentioned Arenas a few times during the interview. The Rockets don't want McGrady coming back too early. It's been his pattern to try to come back to soon, only to complain about it shortly thereafter and have to take more time off. Don't think the Rockets want to go through that again this year.
Nobody will even listen to Tracy. But even Tim mentiones his goal is to make him ready for the start of the year. We will see, though.
That's a fine goal for Tracy and his trainer to have. But its better for the Rockets to err on the side of caution. When dealing with Tracy and Yao. The other players might be better off building chemistry with one another in McGrady's absence also.
pretty amazing what a dedicate mcgrady can do. unfortunately he'll only be dedicated in a contract year.
Why not let him come off the bench in the first couple of games? He did practically the same in RA's first year as coach.
January? LOL - read between the lines. TMac "I am ready DM, and RA, put me in, let's roll...it is NBA game time baby" DM "Tracy we want to take it slow and be sure you are all the way back for the good of your career and our team" Tmac " I am ready, working hard with Grover, and he says I am ready too" DM "December or January.....then we will see" TMac "Man, that sucks....." Translation: Tmac " I am in a contract year, and worked my butt off to get ready" DM "We want to limit your playing time to as few games as possible before trading you" TMac " I need all season to show what I can do to get a new deal" DM "The only deal we want is to ship you out to another team, and we don't want to risk your fragility on to many games, if you come back in Janurary, it will look like you are healthy, limit your and our exposure and increase your trade value" Nothing much to see here....it sure reads like DM is still planning on trading him, wants to limit his exposure on the court to drive up the trading value. DD
That's what I'm seeing also DD. Also, if they do truly have plans to bring him back in January, I wouldn't put it past Tracy to come out publicly in December saying that he wants to be traded because the Rockets are holding him out.
I don't see it that way. McGrady is notoriously a slow starter, and the Rockets would probably benefit from him having a couple months to ramp himself up and get into the flow. Since he's been a Rocket, he seems to always start slow in November and peak in January/February.
Why anyone actually thinks Morey actually wants McGrady on the team is beyond me. Yeah, Mac's working hard to get back on the court, but it's a contract year, he needs to look motivated (he's always been a bit on the lazy side), and nothing he does can erase the facts that his act has worn thin here, or that he is worth far more in trade (albeit it might also cost us one of our young up-and-coming players to even out a trade) than he is in future value to the team. Point in case: If we don't trade him, he'll leave on his own anyway, and we'll be stuck with no real cap room next year to add a significant piece to the puzzle. Work hard, Tmac. And, uh, see ya.
I think you got that backward. If we trade him, we have to take back salary. If he walks we have cap room.
Jason Friedman in chat today said it was highly unlikely that Tmac is on the team next year. He would know... DD
