http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4317515 Portland should be ecstatic if this goes through. Hinrich is a great fit there
I will be more than surprised if Portland has to wind up settling for Hinrich. It doesn't hurt to add him but is that all they could do with their cap flexibility? Portland adding Hinrich is the equivalent of making a football team kick a field goal. They went from Devin Harris aspirations to Kirk Hinrich...
This is NOT a confirmed trade, fyi. Just strong discussions going on according to the article. Seems like Utah might be countering the Blazers push for Millsap by clearing up some cap room...but the ironic thing is the Blazers might be the ones causing it by going through with this trade. Surely they wouldn't do it if it hurt their chances at Millsap, or do they value Hinrich more? Very interesting.
yep...I understand the lack of enthusiasm with Steve Blake, but Blake effectively outplayed Hinrich last year. Granted, Hinrich was playing behind Rose, but nonetheless, he's only gotten worse over the last 2 years, which coincidentally, aligns with when he got paid.
If this goes through it looks like the biggest winners of the trade would be Utah. They get to dump Boozer, get Tyrus Thomas, and resign Millsap. Ugh.
Yeah, Kirk is a future hall of famer He is, potentially, a minor upgrade over Steve Blake, though gets paid over twice as much on a contract with 3 more years. Also, might be important to note, per ESPN's trade machine, Portland is still taking back too much salary, so they'd still ahve to renounce rights or find ways to get more under the cap...
Does this impact us getting Pryzbilla? I know we weren't 100% getting him in the first place, but if Utah gets rid of Boozer they certainly will keep Millsap, meaning our Portland speculated trade doesn't make sense anymore on their side.
Millsap is better. But he isn't a starter in Portland, offensively he is somewhat a product of the Sloan system, and Hinrich carries that Shane Battier-esque quality. Either Millsap or Hinrich would be the Blazers just settling IMO.
