berkman/oswalt is the obvious heir; they're likely to be, statistically, the best hitter/pitcher in astro history.

Ensberg frustrated me so much while he was here. He was a pure guess hitter and sometimes watching his at bats and the way he would dive out of the way of perfect strikes down the middle was absolutely painful to watch, but he could also go on very hot stretches.
Sign Ensberg for the minimum, he would definitely give us more punch than Blum/Keppinger. I am sick to death of watching those two scrubs.

No, no, and hell no.

I actually saw Morgan Ensburg on ESPN commentating during a Regional/Superregional game, can't remember which. That's why I thought he retired...

Didn't he finish like 3rd in MVP balloting or something one season or am I mistaking him for someone else?

Yeah, I think he finished 4th in 2005 for NL MVP.

After an injury and a very slow start, he's currently hitting .273 w/ 3 hr & 12 rbi. Biggest problem is 40 K and only 3 bb to this point in 165 ab's. We won't see him anytime before September. Maysonet will be called back in the event of another infield injury.

once ensberg stopped doing the juice he became worthless, blum and keppinger is a serviceable platoon, the astros are not built around a third base platoon, timely hitting but mostly pitching has been there demise this season

You'd think so, but the Astros are actually 7th in the NL in ERA, and 13th in runs scored.

okay just checked it -23
horrendous is an overstatement
but losing the leads in the last two games we lost because of the bullpen, and having moehlor a started with a 6 era are why i pointed to pitching, so timely hitting and timely pitching is that more accurate?

Yes, it is. But at -25, it is at its lowest point since mid-May. They've been up above -40 a couple of times this year, so they're making progress.
But it still sucks! Just not as badly. :D

Sorry, a starting 3B -- a premium power position -- with an OPS of .648 is not at all serviceable, and it's not debatable. It's pathetic and killing this offense.
And can we stop with the absurdly annoying, proofless and pointless steroid witchhunts?

your right about proofless and pointless
but as far as 3b goes, are you telling me that ensberg is a better alternative than the platoon we have now?

There's only 16 teams in the NL. Being 13th isn't good. The era does surprise me a bit. It's a good sign. If the offense can get anything going consistently, there's a real chance of getting and staying above .500....which might be all that's necessary to win the NL Central.

I don't know about Berkman...Berkman basically needs another five 30 HR / 100 RBI seasons to catch up to Bagwell's career numbers. He could certainly do it, but that would mean he needs to keep it up till age 38. I wonder if his body holds up long enough for him to do that.

Do you think he'll hang up the spikes after 3 more years? At age 36?

I really liked Morgan. It was sad to see his career dip like crazy after the injury.
