Raw Video: Cop Tasers 72 Year-Old Granny

    * By Noah Shachtman Email Author

Watch Travis County constable RIchard McCain explain the incident, and the whole thing sounds reasonable: The driver was speeding through a construction zone, and disobeyed the deputy’s orders when she got pulled over. So, eventually, the cop zapped her with a Taser.

But then you watch the video of what went down on that strip of Texas highway. And suddenly, the claims of the driver “refusing to move” and getting “violent” suddenly seem ridiculous. Because the driver is a 72 year-old great grandmother who barely makes it up to the cop’s chest. Take a look:

    lol

See, now that's excessive. The cop should be able to handle the old lady, or at least keep her controlled until more cops showed up. Tazin' wasn't necessary.

Still though, I don't feel sorry for her. At 72, she spent enough years on this earth to know coming at a cop and trying to walk back to her car isn't the best idea.

His fatness equals her oldness... so it's really even. Makes sense now he needed to use the Taser.

I saw on the news this morning where they interviewed her before the tapes were released. She says she was being cooperative and not argumentative. She got a lawyer and isn't making any comments now.

After watching that tape, she was not being cooperative and was very argumentative. But I agree with everyone else, the taser was not needed in this situation. This could have been avoided if the lady just signed the ticket.

WTF? She didn't do anything to deserve a tasing.........I mean come on...why was he even trying to arrest her in the first place?

I really wish they had higher standards for recruiting police.

    UGH.

I agree. Tazers were created as an alternative to a GUN. Not so cops could be even more prickish.

Excessive use should be punishable as a criminal act.

You need to see the part when he pulled her over. That video just showed what happened when they got out of the car. I saw it on the news this morning, but can't find the whole video. If she signed the ticket for going 20 miles over the speed limit than none of this would have happened.

Signing a ticket should not be mandatory, IMO......just let the ticket stand on it's own......and see you in court.

Some people think signing it is an admission of guilt.

Still, come on....he should be able to handle a 72 year old great grandmother without tasing......SERIOUSLY !

What is it with cops being so damned weak that they have to resort to tasers? First those 3 cops can't take down the naked dude with the small pecker, and now this cop can't get the cuffs on a 72 year old grandma without the aid of a taser. These cops suck.

Well, I get the feeling they just didn't WANT to. Can't say I blame them there.

That lady certainly didn't deserve to get tasered, but what the hell was she thinking? She admits to speeding but refuses to sign the ticket? Then gets an attitude about it?

Stupidity all around in this case.

it is just proof that you received the ticket. If you didn't people would just pull the ole "i never got a ticket...i didn't know".

pretty pathetic he cannot subdue a 72 ear woman without resorting to a taser. This is such a joke. I spoke to a cop once while working in the ER of a Houston area hospital and he told me that they LOVE to tas people. He said it was a lot of fun and they can get away with it for any reason.
