    - We like the idea of throwing some mid-level cap money at Orlando backup center Marcin Gortat, if only as insurance behind whatever Eddy Curry can give the Knicks next season. He can block shots and guard people, something no 5 on the Knicks’ roster can do, and if Curry can’t cut it, he’s a better option that playing Lee there.

Sacramento and Houston, however, are reportedly also interested in the Polish pivot. (We're hanging a nickname on him before the Italian Stallion people do)

So the Knicks are interested in having the Gortat-Gordita combo at center?

he'd be a nice addition for sure. I like what I see from him during this year's playoffs.

    Gortat 6.7
    Dahntay Jones 6.7

You can never get a guy like that at value. Centers like him always get overpaid. Might as well not waste the time.

I was thinking the same thing. ESPN mentioned him as a replacement to Big Z and Ben Wallace in Cleveland. I would love to have him tho

Cleveland is crazy if they think he can replace Big Z. He is too foul prone to be a starter. He picks up 2-3 fouls in the 1st quarter and sits out the rest of the half.

    You are probably right.

    7 footer + any skills whatsoever + athleticism + potential = $$$$

This guy in Adelman's offense seems to be a good option at the 5 and great insurance for Yao to boot. From watching him play, he can hit a jumper and can play good defense. He's also got mobility and bulk. Like others have said, however, do you want to pay for what he offers? Is he our modern-day Brad Miller?

He would be a solid pick up but not a realistic option, IMO. Given his restricted status the only way a deal would be possible is via S&T. Orlando isn't just going to agree to this without demanding something decent (and that matches salary going out) in return.

Signing him outright with the MLE is just not an option. Not only could Orlando simply match the offer but that also means we're essentially sacrificing Artest/Wafer all for a backup center.

i'd honestly rather pay for him than Ron at this point. Why? Because we deperately need a back up center who would also step in and start for an extended time if needed, which is very possible. We don't desperately need a wing defender or a wing scorer, specially if tmac can return even at 80%. I'd rather have this team healthy with gortat, than with ron and some guy who's NDL material for life backing up Yao.

The way you word that, it sounds as if without a healthy McGrady, you still don't think we desperately need a scoring wing. I couldn't disagree more. Without McGrady, I think a scoring wing is our biggest need by far over issues like PG and backups for any position.

    And it's "especially", not "specially."

I think people are failing to realize how up against the wall Orlando will be cap-wise next season, before even considering what they will do about Gortat. Unless Turkoglu chooses not to exercise his player option and ends up elsewhere, it will be hard for them to match offers for Gortat.

That would be a huge mistake.Gortat has a long way to go before he can establish himself,if Ron leaves us without another starting SF/SG,we will be rudderless. Battier can't do anything on offense without either him or a healthy McGrady. We can't rely on McGrady coming back,he hasn't been able to show much leadership even at his best for more a few games at a time. We do need a quality backup C,it's better to go for a UFA like Zaza rather than an RFA like Gortat. He lacks Gortat's power and explosiveness, but he is fundamentally sounder. That's the best we can expect, because Chris Anderson is unlikely to walk through the door to Les' office.
