Going out on Saturday for my birthday and thought I'd take myself out for some good sushi. I just moved back here a few months ago, but I honestly haven't been impressed at the quality of the sushi places I've been to here (Ra, Azuma near the village, Miyako, etc.).

Price really doesn't matter. A fun atmosphere would be a plus. I'm just looking for high quality fish and a diverse menu.

I live near Bellaire, so the northside of town is probably out the question. Thanks!!

Kona Grill in Sugar Land. It's pricey, but the inside/outside bar area has a great atmosphere.

Sage 400, by the Galleria is my personal favorite. There Texas roll is the best.

I can only agree with Sage 400 out of the above recommendations, its a nice place with good food and reasonable prices, one of my faves places...

Also some of the better sushi places IMO are Fish on W. Grey and Uptown in Uptown Park which have pretty trendy/upscale atmosphere

I like Kubo's in Rice Village, but I also like Miyako's.

Another place I really liked went out of business. The sushi place, Sake Lounge, was in Bayou Place, the same building as the downtown Hard Rock Cafe and Verizon. A new sushi place, Bonzai Sushi, has opened in the same location, but I have not tried it.

This is the only place I've had sushi in Houston. It was okay.

The only other time I've had sushi was in D.C., and it was really good.

I'd like some recommendations too as I am pretty new to the whole sushi thing.

I second Kubos, and I would also recommend Kaneyama off Westheimer.

Also Soma off Washington and Uptown Sushi near the Galleria. These two are more trendy sushi places and more pricey...for good sushi for cheap, try Oishii.

Pretty good place, I've been there.. pretty much everything around that area is pricey... hell Sugar Land itself has gotten so pricey with the restaurants around First Colony Mall.

Best sushi in town. Their chef trained a lot of the sushi chef's in town. Atmosphere is okay, but sushi is amazing (IMO)

artest jvg and shane go to Sushi king on kirby/richmond.

but uptown sushi in uptown park is definitely the upscale/go to be seen restaurant that's not TOO expensive.

Uptown for the sushi and the "scene"

Kubo's for the sushi alone, scene is ok

I've heard Uptown has gone downhill in recent years.

    Osaka in the Montrose.

    Kubo's in Rice Village.

    Blue Fish on Richmond.

Sage 400 in the Galleria area.

    713 (?) on Westheimer.

I heard Tokyo One (sushi buffet) is okay.
