Looks like Warner Bros. green-lit (lololol) a Green Lantern movie as their next DC super-hero movie. It's being directed by Martin Campbell (GoldenEye, Casino Royale) so it looks like it will be in good hands. http://www.slashfilm.com/2009/04/16/the-green-lantern-has-150-million-budget-shooting-in-sydney/
Umm, yeah, I wouldn't be too sure about that. So far the best super hero movies I think have been The Dark Knight, Iron Man, and the first 2 Spider-Man movies. All of these franchises have a director who is a fan of the source material.
I don't know what he is like now, but I remember growing up, he and Batman were two of the lamest superheroes ever. You could beat this fool to death with a banana and he couldn't do anything about it. Want to kick his butt? Wear a yellow raincoat. School bus going over a cliff? Oh no, it's yellow... sorry kids.
I think recently in the comics they sort of got over the whole 'yellow impurity' thing. I don't mind them introducing it into the movie as long as at the end Green Lantern somehow magically overcomes it through sheer will power in order to defeat his enemy.
ABOUT TIME!!! they have some pretty good spoofs on youtube. i wonder which female counterpart are they gonna give him... poll: vixen or hawkgirl
After wikipediaing and googling this matter for a while, I have concluded it will thus be a worthy comic to adapt to movie form.
How old are you? Batman hasn't been lame since the 60s. The Yellow thing is dumb and I suppose it was introduced because without it, Green Lantern is just too powerful, but your explanation is exaggerated. The yellow weakness meant that he couldn't use his ring to pick up a banana. He's still a perfectly fit adventurer. If you threw a banana at him he'd kick your ass. Ignoring the fact that wearing a rain coat wouldn't leave you completely head to toe covered in yellow, he could still pick up a car and drop it on you and all that would be left are yellow galoshes sticking out from underneath like the wicked witch.
I gave up on comics when Batman went Dark Knight again in the 90's (and jumped into the "same comic with 295 different collectible covers ). I never liked superheroes with no cool superpowers - they bore me. lol. It was a joke! (He still sucked, though... that's no joke!)
It really has potential to be an epic franchise if they don't keep him strictly on Earth. I think a rough synopsis of how the first 2 movies could go would be: -The origin, the GL who patrols the sector earth is in crashes on Earth and passes his ring onto Hal Jordan before he dies. -Hal becomes a hero on earth, fighting crime and what not until Sinestro shows up to train him. -Sinestro shows him the ropes takes him to different planets in his own sector to show him what it is to be a "space cop." -But things get all "Training Day" between the two of them as Hal becomes aware that Sinestro is a brutal dictator on his own planet. -This leads to conflict between Jordan and Sinestro and of course he has no chance, yadda yadda somehow Hal manages to get a message to the Guardians and other Lanterns show up at the last minute and help him defeat Sinestro. -The sequel could start with Sinestro's origin -Fast forward to the present where Sinestro gets his yellow power ring (maybe they can limit the yellow weakness to just his ring) -Hal is training on OA and we learn more about the Green Lantern Corps -Sinestro shows up to destroy the GL Corps. Epic space fighting.....
I know its a joke, but arguing about silly stuff like this is a nice break from D&D arguing. I don't actually want the green lantern to drop a car on you while you are wearing a yellow raincoat
I forgot to add this in: Someone from one of the movie blogs had a chance to read the scripts and gives us 5 reasons why we will love it. http://www.firstshowing.net/2008/10/07/5-reasons-why-fans-will-love-the-green-lantern-movie/
