Kevin Love is averaging 9 rebounds a game while only playing 25 minutes. He's going to be a perennial double double guy. I know Mayo may win rookie of the year but you can get a 20 point scorer that doesn't play defense anywhere. Double digit rebounders are rare. Love and Jefferson are going to make as strong of a front court as you're going find anywhere in the NBA.
We'll see. I'm not sold on Kevin Love. Mayo is indeed very one-dimensional, but we don't know how good a scorer he will be. He also might learn how to play defense down the line. Love, IMO, has a very limited ceiling and I'm not sure he will get much better.
Considering where that franchise was... Jefferson>Garnett On the other hand, he let the franchise get to that point...
+1, it was only after Jefferson went down that Kevin Love developed into the machine he is now. Unless Love and Jefferson learn to complement each other's games, one will end up shipped out (Love).
is this love guy the one who, according to adelman, fell down in defense before yao even touched him?
This is a great summary of my feelings. I'd rather have O.J. Mayo than Kevin Love if I had to choose though.
Al Jefferson: December: 23 ppg, 10 rpg, 50% FG January: 23.6 ppg, 11.1 rpg, 47.6% FG February: 25.0 ppg, 14.6 rpg, 54.6% FG (out after 6 games) Kevin Love: December: 6.6 ppg, 9.1 rpg, 38.1% FG (indicates rookie struggles) January: 12.6 ppg, 10.0 rpg, 54.3% FG February: 12.6 ppg, 10.0 rpg, 51.9% FG March: 15.3 ppg, 9.6 ppg, 45.7% FG Jefferson does not hinder Love's ability to be a double-double machine. Love won't get much better but the Wolves drafted him for his consistency and basketball IQ, which does improve with age.
I want nothing of O.J. Mayo. He's a shoot first kinda guy. I mean he took like 20 shots in his very first game lol. Kevin Love I'm not too sure about. I think I take Landry over him for the athleticism and potential. I'm certain I take Scola over him.
Also, they are both in their rookie seasons and you choose the negatives in O.J. Mayo's game to focus on and extrapolate that he will always have those same weaknesses. By the same token, you instead choose to focus on Kevin Love's positives as if he doesn't have any negatives. You're..... a bit biased. We all are when it comes to certain players, though. I just hope you realize this.
Eh, I think O.J. has the potential to be a great player. His size at the 2 is a bit of a concern to me, though. Something that I do like about him as a player is that he always seems cool under pressure and you can tell he wants to be a great player. Having that drive to be a great player is one of the things that I look for in new players, especially after McGrady.
I stand corrected sir, but I can't help but believe that Love will never reach the caliber he could if he were playing on his own, a la Brook Lopez
Btw, just a thought: If Garnet for Jefferson + garbage was not considered highway robbery, why is Pau for Marc Gasol + garbage considered so bad? Gasol has great upside and is very young. I have a hard time believing the Grizzlies could have gotten a better combination of young, cheap talent.
Passing up Brandon Roy has been his biggest mistake in recent years. I think he got fair value for KG.
I have defended Kevin Love all along and I will continue to do so now. It's as if once 2009 came he turned a corner. He went from the shaky, inconsistent player that couldn't adjust to the speed of the game to a consistent double-double machine. Now, whether there's actual substance behind these "He blew up once AJ got hurt" claims remains to be seen. I think some of you are overlooking the sheer fact that he's a rookie. A rookie that's seemingly getting better with each game. Hell, Scola played some of his best basketball last year once Yao got hurt. Did you hear anybody claiming Scola couldn't play with Yao or they were a bad 4/5 duo?
I don't think its entirely his fault. Minnesota is a tough sell. Similar to Toronto, free agents tend to shy away from those NBA markets.
