I personally can't stand Stephen A Smith but just heard him on ESPN and when asked about the Rockets, he said they have a chance to take the West from the Lakers. He said anytime you have a 7'6' center, a guy like Ron Artest, and good defense you have a chance. He also said he likes the cohesiveness of the Rockets that will give them the chance in the playoffs to advance.

He basically made it seem like it was The Lakers, San Antonio, and the Rockets....

just thought i'd pass it along...we are finally getting some respect.... :p

sorry if this was posted before...if it was, please lock...

As much as I like for other folks to see what good things the Rockets are doing, a zebra don't change its stripes. SAS is a very poor journalist. He is loud just to be loud, and controversial just to be controversial. Just because he happens to write a piece with some points I agree with doesnt mean he is a good journalist.

So I just can't respect his respect of the Rockets.

I hate Stephen A. Smith, he's a tool if you ask me and he's annoying as hell.

But It's nice to hear some respect from people. I actually prefer being unknown so no team will feel like we are a threat.

Did he actually praise Yao without taking a shot at him about being Soft or "Sometimes Stiff"?

yeah he didn't bash Yao at all which was amazing..but he said they might miss Mcgrady's ability to close games...that was his only knock on the rockets....

And he may not be wrong about that. Hopefully the offense focuses more on finding ways to get Yao the ball down the stretch and getting opportunities off of that, cause that's the only closer we got and the defense can at times take it away.

I still don't understand why people care so much of what these so call expert have to say. I just listen for enertainment.

Barkely: there is a reason why they call it The Mistake By The Lake.

Actually, Stephen A. doesn't really say that much about Yao, especially over the last 2 or 3 seasons. Because, Yao has kind of proven himself to be one of the better centers in the league. As he is easily top 2 or 3. Also, it is kind of hard to continually criticize a center who has been producing 20/10 numbers for the last 4 or 5 seasons. The only thing he can really say about him at this point is he could be under performer in the playoffs, like T-Mac.

With that being said, he was wrong about having 7'6 center making any team good, besides what did that do for all the teams who had Shawn Bradley, Gheorgie Muresan, absolutely nothing.

I think he is one of the more loathesome people on ESPN with Skip Bayless, Stuart Scott, and Jim Rome.

Not to be a downer, but I call BS. Last time I checked, we always had a 7'6 center, a guy like Ron Artest, and good defense. I'm not saying he's wrong, but I hate it when suddenly you get noticed and its like "omg, this team is suddenly good!". We've been good for awhile, we just havn't had the same players on the court long enough for anyone to notice.

Why do people care who respects us? This isn't a soap opera, it's the NBA. Who cares about any of this kind of thing? You guys should flip back over to your professional wrestling to get your drama fix.

People always say this. Being "unknown?" I mean, the other teams know exactly who we are and exactly what we like to do, probably more than 90% of this forums does. I don't think teams generally surprise other teams in the NBA, and I don't think Poppovich is listening to Stephen A. Smith talk about the Rockets and going "Oh yeah, I forgot about them....they might be a problem.."

Not trying to pick on you, I just never understood this reasoning.

    I have to agree

The guys who run the teams are pros, they dont base their opinion or scouting assignments on what a talking(or screaming) head on tv says.

They pay their scouts to prepare them for EVERY team they play, they dont overlook a team just cause the fans or media think that team sucks.

We deserve respect when we EARN IT THE PLAYOFFS. Every year, people complain about how we get no respect. Well, sorry to burst the bubble, but we haven't won a playoff series in 11 years now. Why should anyone respect us? We'll get our respect when we go out there and earn it.

You want to hear your team talked about in a positive way. Thats why.

The thing I take issue with is its not like all of the sudden we are doing something different. I suppose we aren't losing to random teams like the Wizards and the Raptors, but its been at least a month since we've been at that point.

It's not about winning. You want to turn on the TV and hear people talking about your team.

As a player, sure, you should be playing to win and not be playing for respect/fame. But as a fan, if my team is .500 and suddenly for whatever reason we start getting good press, I don't care that we are going to barely make the playoffs (if we even do).

I have to agree 110%. I love my Rox but in order for other teams to respect them they MUST win in the playoffs. Once they establish themselves as a threat in the playoffs, then we as fans can demand respect if it is not given.
