I didnt see this posted anywhere, but if I missed it please lock as necessary New article from Jason Friedman Click the link for the rest LINK
Just click the link, its easier to read on the original site anyways. Plus, I don't even think its legal to post a full article of somebody else's work. I could be wrong. You'll also be helping out a fellow Clutchfan by clicking the link.
Jason (the author) is a regular here on clutchfans and used to post his articles when he worked for the Houston Press here...all he asks is that his articles are not quoted in full and that we click on the link to go to the main page so he gets hits and keeps his job. Personally i dont find that hard to do and it helps him out.
Yao is great, people just can't accept him for the player that he is. It's just so much easier to be a hater some will never get it out of their system. They talk about his defense but forget this was a elite defensive team with Yao in the middle under JVG. They talk about the things Howard does that Yao can't do, but don't mention that Howard can't even hit a free throw when you need it.
The Shakespeare stuff kind of lost me, but I enjoyed the meat of the article when it started to talking about basketball. So amongst actual post players, really only Duncan and Bosh get more touches in crunch time than Yao Ming. Further, it's much easier to get those guys the ball because they can step out away from the basket and receive it. I'd like to know how often the Rockets run a player with Yao as the primary option, and what percentage of those plays Yao actually receives the ball.
Good article, well written, and I liked the Shakespeare stuff, but Jason took a little too long to get to his point. He's still one of my favorite Rockets writers though and I hope he one day can find a spot on the Chronicle.
Good write-up. The bit about Hamlet is quite apt since the Rockets have been a Shakespearean drama for some time.
