Obamas gifts to Prime Minister Brown

Good grief, it pains me to think that someone as rough around the edges and unsophisticated as Michelle Obama is representing the United States abroad. These gifts are quite reflective of her and Barry's self-centered manner. This is just embarrassing. No class at all. No polish.

Damn. At least the DVDs are somewhat useful. We're going to have a squabble over presidential gifts? Brits sure know how to make a drama out of everything.

Actually American DVDs are not useful in the UK unless you mean useful as a coaster.

Also, relations between countries have been ruined over lesser things.

It is important when in a diplomatic leadership role to be...I dunno...diplomatic.

Nice trade-off I'd say. I'd love it if you could provide examples of how countries fell apart because of disappointing presidential gifts when it is clear that these days, lavish spending at the expense of one's country is somewhat frowned upon.

There are not examples of presidential gifts being the problem. Diplomatic relations can break down due to perceived slights. Look it up. Or you could actually bother to do something other than sleep in history class.

 

If they want to fight us, because they didn't like the DVDs. Just let them try. Brown will go down like Saddam. They would be crazy to start a war for some movies.

I don’t usually respond to TJ’s posts, but this one was just too ironic to pass up. The crudest and most ill bred person on this board is trying to question Michelle Obama’s upbringing??

When the Obama’s came to Canada recently they were greeted very warmly, a sharp contrast to the way W. was greeted when he came. The Obama’s are educated, intelligent, well mannered people who are admired around the world. W. was a crude, uneducated, unworldly, relative backwoods hick who embarrassed himself and his country almost every time he went abroad.

 

Britain is America's older, slightly creepy girlfriend.
Canada is America's goody-two-shoes friend.
France is America's "friend"...the guy that always gets made fun of because he's different (and may be in the closet)
Japan is the token Asian in the group.
Italy is the funny guy in the group.
Germany is the happy, bright kid trying to hide a dark past.
Israel is the new guy that everyone else in the school hates, so he hangs with America.

When a guy like TJ, who supported Bubba Bush, tries to call the Obama’ unpolished and lacking in class I have to see that as probably nothing more than the first ridiculous thing that popped into his head to mask his real motives.
