Wow, if this is true...this is like the first step towards the nightmare described in I, Robot. I mean, you give these robots "learning" software, and who knows what weird things they will learn. What happens when they realize the best way to keep everyone safe is to lock us in boxes and not let us out where we can get hurt?

The Japanese are approaching this wrong. Who wants a robot to hug you? The real money is in robots with squeezable breasts, multiple lifelike orifices and a built in beer cooler. Lust is easier to program than intimacy......
I will take on that mechanical man in the Interesting story. I find it a bit depressing though that emotions might be able to be reduced down to algorithms. Since the robot has quickly become both a stalker who can't let go and a w**** willing to throw his affections at anyone maybe what makes us human is the ability to control our emotions.
